The new REL T/9i RED Limited Edition is what happens when the question whether it is possible to produce the flagship of the REL T/i Series in “Italian red” is answered with a clear “yes”. This is how the specialist for subwoofers REL Acoustics Ltd. describes the new offspring, claiming to have dispensed with a yellow emblem with a jumping horse…
You can twist and turn it any way you like, subwoofers are one of those product categories that you have to accept to a certain extent as physics dictates as a form factor. Even intensive efforts of proven experts in this field can make a subwoofer a bit more “living space-friendly”, but the bottom line is that it always remains a rather inconspicuous “box” if you put it in a nutshell.
With subwoofers, you can follow the strategy of developing solutions that are as unobtrusive as possible so that they are not conspicuous in the living environment, or you can take the opposite approach and focus on the subwoofer with an unusual design. This is exactly what the specialist REL Acoustics Ltd. has now decided to do with the new design variant of the REL T9/i, the REL T9/1 RED Limited Edition. This is a special model of the flagship of the REL T/i Series, which presents itself in the style of legendary Italian sports cars.
REL Acoustics Ltd. had asked themselves the question whether it was possible to design a subwoofer in such a way that it would present itself in “Italian red”. The answer was the new REL T/9i RED.
It took 14 months to find exactly the right colour, the colour that represents cars of the late 1980s from a particular Italian factory. However, the corresponding yellow emblem with a jumping horse was not used, knowing full well that this would involve considerable royalties. However, the typical look reminiscent of exotic Italian GTs and sports cars was to be consistently implemented, so that in addition to the high-gloss red, other classic design features such as a triple chrome-plated top badge with a carbon fibre trim as a border, as well as sleeves also made of carbon fibre for the feet were used.
Of course, the extremely compact dimensions of the REL T/9i RED have not changed, measuring no more than 330 x 387 x 407 mm and weighing no less than 18.7 kg.
A key factor in the compact dimensions is of course the chassis, which has to do a great deal of work to ensure that the REL T/9i RED can still deliver full performance. The REL T/9i RED, for example, is equipped with a 10-inch REL long-throw woofer, which is also supported by a 10-inch passive radiator, with one driver radiating forward and the other downward. This is driven by a power amplifier working in class AB, which delivers a power of 300 watts. Sophisticated circuitry, particularly high-quality filters and a solid power supply are intended to ensure that the REL T/9i RED always delivers optimum results, regardless of whether you use it for surround or hi-fi solutions.
The REL T/9i RED has a well-equipped connection panel that also supports all the different types of subwoofer applications. This includes the option of connecting the subwoofer wirelessly using the REL Arrow Zero Compression Wireless Kit, which is offered separately.
The new REL T/9i RED should be available in specialist shops these days. As it is a Limited Edition, if you are interested in this very special version, you should buy it as soon as possible. The regular REL T9/1 is of course still available in unchanged form from REL Acoustics Ltd.
