Sennheiser HDB 630 Lunar Silver – the audiophile wireless over-ear headphones arrive in elegant silver

Sennheiser has given the HDB 630 a second colour: Lunar Silver pairs matt silver ear cups with black pads and a black headband. Inside, the closed-back design keeps its 42 mm dynamic drivers, Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX Adaptive, a parametric equaliser, crossfeed and up to 60 hours of battery life. We look at what the new finish changes, what stays the same and who it is aimed at.

Story Highlights
  • The Sennheiser HDB 630 Lunar Silver is a closed-back wireless over-ear headphone for audiophile listeners, offered as a matt silver alternative to the black original with identical technology: 42 mm dynamic drivers, Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX Adaptive for up to 24 bit 96 kHz, the bundled BTD 700 Bluetooth USB-C dongle, a parametric equaliser, crossfeed and adaptive noise cancelling. It runs for up to 60 hours per charge, costs an unchanged € 499,90 and is sold through authorised dealers and Sennheiser's online shop.

Not every update needs new technology. With the Sennheiser HDB 630 Lunar Silver, Sennheiser takes a proven headphone and simply gives it a different face. The HDB 630, introduced in October 2025 and aimed squarely at audiophile music lovers, was until now available only in black. From today it has a sibling: matt silver ear cups set against black ear pads and a black headband. Sennheiser’s consumer audio products are overseen by Sonova Consumer Hearing GmbH, and the company says the technical concept of the closed-back wireless over-ear model remains entirely unchanged.

What has not changed: the engineering underneath

The new colour touches nothing beneath the surface. The Sennheiser HDB 630 Lunar Silver uses the same closed-back, over-ear construction as the black model, with generously sized ear pads and a headband covered in Japanese synthetic leather from IDEATEX. Sennheiser describes the build as comfort-oriented, which matters for a headphone intended for long sessions at home as well as on the move.

The drivers are dynamic 42 mm units manufactured by Sennheiser in Tullamore, Ireland. Combined with what the company calls a carefully tuned acoustic design, they are meant to deliver a neutral, detailed and balanced presentation.

Voicing: neutrality over effect

Sennheiser puts particular emphasis on controlled bass, natural mids and the accurate rendering of fine musical detail. The aim, according to the company, is to set the HDB 630 apart from lifestyle headphones with a more effects-driven tuning, and to speak above all to listeners who prize authentic reproduction. How well that promise holds up in practice is a matter for a full review; the stated intent is clear enough.

Connections: wireless, USB-C and cable

Wireless transmission runs over Bluetooth 5.2. Besides SBC and AAC, the headphones support aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive, the last of which allows high-resolution transfer of up to 24 bit 96 kHz under suitable conditions.

The bundled Sennheiser BTD 700 Bluetooth USB-C dongle is the more unusual part of the package. Plugged into a compatible smartphone, tablet or computer, it adds a Bluetooth link with aptX Adaptive support even when the source device does not offer that codec itself. For anyone listening mainly from a phone or notebook, that opens the door to wireless hi-res playback. Those who prefer a wired connection can use USB-C directly or the analogue audio cable, so the headphones fit a wide range of listening situations.

Shaping the sound: parametric EQ, crossfeed and noise cancelling

The Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app is where listeners can adjust the sound to taste. Alongside conventional sound options there is a parametric equaliser, which allows frequency ranges, filter Q and further parameters to be set precisely.

Crossfeed is the other notable tool. It blends portions of the left and right stereo channels in a controlled manner, with the aim of recreating something closer to the experience of listening over conventional stereo loudspeakers. On recordings with strong channel separation in particular, this can make the spatial picture feel more natural.

Adaptive active noise cancelling and a transparency mode complete the picture, along with further functions that can be configured in the app.

Battery life and what is in the box

Endurance is unchanged from the original model: up to 60 hours per charge, which leaves ample reserve for daily use, long journeys or extended listening sessions. Quick charging is said to provide up to seven hours of playback from just ten minutes on the cable.

In the box are the headphones, the Sennheiser BTD 700 Bluetooth USB-C dongle, a USB-C cable, an analogue audio cable with a 3,5 mm stereo mini jack, an airline adapter and a carrying case.

The new finish: silver instead of black

Lunar Silver is the first alternative to the all-black design. The matt silver ear cups and matching connecting elements stand out clearly against the black ear pads and the black headband. The result is a restrained yet distinctive look that emphasises the technical character of the headphones. For a product meant to be used both at home and out and about, appearance sits alongside sound quality and functionality as a factor in the decision, and Lunar Silver simply widens the choice.

All benefits at a glance

  • A second colour: the matt silver finish gives the HDB 630 a more elegant appearance and broadens the design options.
  • Audiophile tuning: 42 mm dynamic drivers and an acoustic design built around neutrality are intended to deliver precise, detailed playback.
  • Hi-res over Bluetooth: aptX Adaptive and the included Sennheiser BTD 700 dongle make high-resolution wireless listening possible.
  • Flexible connections: Bluetooth, USB-C and an analogue input are all on hand.
  • Personal sound: a parametric equaliser allows extensive adjustment to individual taste.
  • More natural staging: crossfeed can produce a spatial presentation closer to that of loudspeakers.
  • Adaptive noise cancelling: active noise reduction tones down distracting ambient sound.
  • Long runtime: up to 60 hours per charge, plus quick charging, for extended listening.

Price and availability

The Sennheiser HDB 630 Lunar Silver is available immediately as the second colour option alongside the existing black version. The recommended retail price is unchanged at € 499,90. The new variant is sold through authorised specialist dealers and directly through Sennheiser’s online shop.

Getting to the point

With the Sennheiser HDB 630 Lunar Silver, Sennheiser shows that an established product can be refreshed effectively without any technical change. The new finish gives this richly equipped headphone a more elegant look and widens the choice for those who care about more than the technical qualities of a mobile audio product.

What matters remains the proven concept: a deliberately neutral sound, extensive personalisation and flexible connectivity for listening at home and away. Lunar Silver is therefore an attractive addition to the range from Sennheiser, particularly for music lovers who found the black original a little too understated.
