Q Acoustics Concept Series – Stereo and Home Cinema

The Q Acoustics Concept Series is equipped for both stereo and home cinema, and is now being expanded to include the Q Acoustics Concept 30, Q Acoustics Concept 50 and Q Acoustics Concept 90 models.

The Q Acoustics Concept Series uses some of the most advanced and innovative technologies to deliver outstanding sound and a sensational soundstage, according to the promise of the English loudspeaker specialist Q Acoustics.

The Q Acoustics Concept Series has so far been presented with the models Q Acoustics Concept 300 and Q Acoustics Concept 500, now it is extended by three new solutions. As of now, the Q Acoustics Concept 30, Q Acoustics Concept 50 and Q Acoustics Concept 90 are also available.

Q Acoustics Concept Series – Designed for Stereo as Well as Home Cinema

The flexibility of the Q Acoustics Concept Series has also been drastically improved, because while it was previously designed solely for classic hi-fi in stereo, now with the introduction of the three new models nothing stands in the way of its use in home cinema and thus multi-channel surround.

The Q Acoustics Concept Series, consisting of the Q Acoustics Concept 30 bookshelf speaker, the Q Acoustics Concept 50 floorstanding speaker, the flagship Q Acoustics Concept 300 floorstanding speaker, the top-of-the-line Q Acoustics Concept 500 floorstanding speaker and the Q Acoustics Concept 90 centre speaker for home theatre, represents, according to the manufacturer, the culmination of all the technological advances and innovations the company has achieved over the past 15 years. They even go so far as to say that this product line surpasses anything Q Acoustics has ever achieved. They are convinced that these beautifully designed speakers offer a level of sonic performance that was previously considered impossible in this price range.

State-of-the-art technologies with outstanding price-performance ratio

The new Q Acoustics Concept 30 bookshelf speaker, the Q Acoustics Concept 50 floorstander and the Q Acoustics Concept 90 centre speaker are based on the state-of-the-art technologies and design features of the proven top models Q Acoustics Concept 300 and Q Acoustics Concept 500. In addition, Q Acoustics introduces several new audio innovations designed to guarantee true high-end sound quality while maintaining the outstanding price-performance ratio.

Even the first loudspeakers in the Q Acoustics Concept Series had a special double-walled Gelcore cabinet. The space in between is filled with a gel that absorbs resonances and converts kinetic energy into heat. At the same time, this reduces distortion and creates the best working conditions for the speaker drivers.

The cabinet resonance minimising P2P (point to point) technology ensures that exactly those parts of the cabinet are stiffened that require it. With the exception of the Q Acoustics Concept 90 centre, the P2P technology first used in the Q Acoustics Concept 500 is now used in the entire Q Acoustics Concept Series.

The new Q Acoustics Concept Series models use a variation of the highly effective Q Acoustics Concept 300 suspension system in the form of a spring-loaded base plate. Two plates separated by spherical elements effectively isolate the cabinet from interference from external vibrations and provide more precise and spatial stereo imaging.

Slim floorstanding speakers run the risk of producing pronounced standing waves inside them. Q Acoustics engineers have therefore developed the Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer (HPE). It consists of special tubes mounted inside the cabinets to equalise pressure differences within the cabinet.

Newly developed loudspeaker drivers

Both the 125 mm bass-midrange driver and the 25 mm dome tweeter have been redesigned as integral parts of the cabinet’s mechanical structure. The drivers are attached to the extremely rigid 3 mm thick aluminium baffle with preloaded bolts – invisible from the outside – before the baffle is fixed into the cabinet.

The tweeter is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle, resulting in significantly lower distortion and enabling a lower crossover frequency to the mid-bass driver.

The cone driver, with its 30.5 mm voice coil, has 50 percent more power handling than a driver with a conventional 25 mm voice coil, making it easier to drive and easy to match with a wide range of amplifiers.

To protect the crossover from the vibrations and electromagnetic influences of the loudspeaker chassis that affect the sound, it is mounted directly on the isolation base.

Q Acoustics Concept 30 5.1 Home Cinema Package and Q Acoustics Concept 50 5.1 Home Cinema Package

As already mentioned, the new models are not only intended for use in stereo hi-fi systems; the solutions can also be used for home cinema. Q Acoustics has put together two packages for this purpose, namely the Q Acoustics Concept 30 5.1 Home Cinema Package and the Q Acoustics Concept 50 5.1 Home Cinema Package.

While the first set focuses on the Q Acoustics Concept 30, which is used for both the front and surround channels, the second set combines the Q Acoustics Concept 50 as the front speaker with the Q Acoustics Concept 30 for the surround channels. In both packages, of course, the Q Acoustics Concept 90 is the centre speaker and a Q Acoustics QB12 active subwoofer is responsible for the low bass.

The speaker systems of the Q Acoustics Concept Series are offered in black, white and silver. However, with the sets mentioned, only white and black are available as a choice.

Just like its big sister, the Q Acoustics Concept 300, the new Q Acoustics Concept 30 bookshelf speaker system also comes with an optional stand. In this case, however, there is also an optional wall bracket, so that nothing stands in the way of a particularly space-saving wall mounting.

Getting to the point

Up to now, the Q Acoustics Concept Series with the models Q Acoustics Concept 500 and Q Acoustics Concept 300 presented outstanding loudspeaker systems, but not exactly broadly positioned. The English loudspeaker specialist Q Acoustics is now changing this with three new solutions. With the new systems Q Acoustics Concept 50 and Q Acoustics Concept 30, not only a new floorstanding speaker system plus a new bookshelf speaker system are available, but with the Q Acoustics Concept 90, the product series now also features a centre speaker, so that home cinema based on the Q Acoustics Concept Series can be realised in addition to stereo.
