FiiO M25 VERITA Portable High Resolution Music Player with Elaborate AKM DAC Architecture and High Output Power

The FiiO M25 VERITA is built around an AKM AK4191EQ and two AK4499EX converters, a fully balanced signal path and up to 2 × 1,700 mW into 32 ohms from its 4.4 mm Pentaconn output. It runs on a Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS6490 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and adds a 31-band parametric equaliser, AUTO EQ and an integrated USB DAC mode. Our report looks at how FiiO has engineered the player to work as both a portable source and a compact desktop hub, and how it differs from the sister model, the FiiO M25 R2R.

Story Highlights
  • The FiiO M25 VERITA is a portable high resolution music player that combines a fully balanced AKM AK4191EQ and dual AK4499EX conversion stage with up to 2 × 1,700 mW into 32 ohms, an Android-based platform with Apple AirPlay and USB DAC modes, and a 6,500 mAh battery with 30 W fast charging. It is listed at € 1.249,90 by the Austrian distributor NT Global Distribution GmbH in black and silver, with a European launch expected in November or December 2026.

FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. of China has added a new model to its line-up of high-end digital audio players: the FiiO M25 VERITA, which the company calls a portable high resolution music player. Its appeal rests on three things working together: an elaborate digital-to-analogue conversion stage, ample processing power and a headphone amplifier meant to cope with demanding headphones. The FiiO M25 VERITA is also the technical foundation for a new model family. Together with the alternative FiiO M25 R2R, it offers two fundamentally different philosophies of D/A conversion.

A player that is equally at home on the desk

The most telling aspect of the FiiO M25 VERITA is not any single component but the way the hardware lets it move between roles. Two USB-C ports allow data transfer and power supply to be separated, so the player can sit on a desk, connected to a computer and fed from an external supply, without the battery being involved. An XMOS XU316 USB audio processor handles the link to computers, smartphones and tablets, which turns the FiiO M25 VERITA into an external USB DAC with a built-in headphone amplifier.

That external supply is more than a convenience. It is also the condition for the player’s highest output rating, which makes the desktop arrangement the natural home for the most demanding headphones. Used this way, the FiiO M25 VERITA can serve either as a standalone mobile source or as one element of a compact desktop hi-fi system.

How much power is on offer

Over the balanced 4,4 mm Pentaconn socket, the FiiO M25 VERITA delivers up to 2 × 1.700 mW into 32 ohms, a considerable figure for a player of this kind. FiiO specifies this for Super High Gain mode with external power connected. In ordinary High Gain operation the manufacturer quotes 2 × 1.000 mW into 32 ohms.

The 3,5 mm stereo mini-jack sits alongside the balanced output. Both sockets can be switched to line-level duty, and the 3,5 mm jack additionally carries a coaxial S/PDIF output, which makes it possible to feed an external DAC or other digital equipment. That flexibility lets the player work with headphones and with stationary systems alike.

Inside the conversion stage

The core of the FiiO M25 VERITA is a DAC configuration built on one AKM AK4191EQ and two AK4499EX chips. The AK4191EQ takes care of digital signal processing, or more precisely the preparation the signal needs before conversion. Each of the two audio channels, left and right, then gets its own AK4499EX.

FiiO’s aim with this split is to reduce interaction between the channels and keep signal handling as precise as possible. The design also uses AKM’s DWA Routing Technology, which, according to the manufacturer, helps to lower interference and improve conversion accuracy.

The entire audio section follows a fully balanced signal path. In combination with a carefully tuned operational amplifier stage, this is intended to deliver strong channel separation, wide dynamic range and playback that stays as true to the source as possible. The player handles PCM up to 32-bit and 768 kHz as well as DSD512.

Taming jitter and noise

FiiO has also drawn on its Digital Audio Purification System, abbreviated DAPS, here in its sixth generation. It rests on a powerful FPGA, of the type also used in the larger FiiO M27, together with two specially tuned femtosecond clock oscillators.

The pairing is there to control the timing of the digital audio data with great precision, and is aimed in particular at keeping jitter to a minimum. A multi-stage conditioning of the power supply and separate supply domains for different circuit blocks add to this, with the goal of keeping mutual interference inside the device as low as possible.

The platform behind it

The FiiO M25 VERITA is controlled by a Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS6490, whose architecture is based on the Snapdragon 778G. According to FiiO, the eight-core processor reaches clock speeds of up to 2.7 GHz and is supported by 8 GB of RAM. Internal storage amounts to 128 GB for music files and apps, and microSD cards can extend this by up to 2 TB. The operating system is Google Android.

The specification is meant to keep operation fluid when several streaming apps are in use, when large music libraries are being managed and when switching between applications. Beyond the standard Android mode, the player offers a dedicated Pure Music Mode as well as modes for Apple AirPlay, USB DAC and Bluetooth reception. Connectivity covers Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi.

The 5.5-inch display has a resolution of 1.080 × 2.160 pixels. Alongside the touchscreen, there are separate controls for volume and playback.

Tailoring the sound

Besides high-grade D/A conversion, the FiiO M25 VERITA gives listeners considerable scope to adapt playback to personal taste and to the character of the headphones connected. A 31-band parametric equaliser is on board, as is AUTO EQ, which applies the corresponding corrections automatically.

On the AKM version, four dedicated sound profiles are offered for the first time, each providing a different tuning. FiiO also provides a three-step adjustment of the second-harmonic component. The result is that playback can be shaped not only with conventional equaliser settings but also in terms of specific tonal characteristics.

Battery life and charging

The built-in battery has a capacity of 6.500 mAh. FiiO quotes up to 9,5 hours of playback for the FiiO M25 via the unbalanced headphone output and up to 8.5 hours when listening via the balanced output. These figures apply under the manufacturer’s own test conditions.

For recharging, the player supports fast charging at up to 30 W, with USB Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge among the standards covered. A full charge should take around two and a half hours under suitable conditions.

All benefits at a glance

  • Refined conversion: A sophisticated AKM architecture with separate converters for the left and right channel.
  • Muscular headphone amplifier: Generous power reserves, including for more demanding headphones.
  • Three devices in one: Mobile music player, streaming source and external USB DAC.
  • Personal sound shaping: 31-band PEQ, AUTO EQ and sound profiles for detailed adjustment.
  • Flexible connections: Balanced and unbalanced outputs for headphones and stationary hi-fi systems.
  • Capable platform: Plenty of processing and storage resources for music libraries and streaming apps.
  • Separate power supply: Easier permanent desktop use, and the route to the highest amplifier output.

Price and availability

The new FiiO M25 is offered in black and silver. The local distributor NT Global Distribution GmbH already lists it at € 1.249,90. A European market launch is expected in November or December 2026.

As an alternative, the manufacturer offers the FiiO M25 R2R, which uses an in-house discrete R2R DAC architecture and is positioned in the same price class.

Getting to the point

With the FiiO M25 VERITA, the Chinese personal audio specialist shows that the border between mobile digital audio players and high-quality desktop audio solutions is increasingly dissolving. The combination of a demanding AKM DAC architecture, powerful headphone amplification and a flexible system platform makes the player an interesting proposition for discerning listeners. What makes it particularly intriguing is that FiiO also offers the FiiO M25 R2R, a technically very different reading of the same device concept.
