The Apple problem, solved with a dongle

Signal processing: K2 Technology, a scheme originally developed by JVCKENWOOD Corporation, is included to reconstruct harmonic content that iFi says can be lost during digital processing. It isn’t always active — it’s switched on or off from within the iFi Nexis app, so the listener decides when to use it.

Two headphones, one source: Dual headphone pairing lets two Bluetooth headphones, or two pairs of true wireless earbuds, connect to the UP Play simultaneously. iFi notes this runs over SBC, making it a convenience feature for sharing music or films rather than a high-resolution listening mode.

Reduced lag for screens: A low-latency mode built on aptX Adaptive addresses the delay that Bluetooth audio can introduce, aiming to keep sound and picture in sync closely enough for video and mobile gaming. Like K2 Technology, it’s toggled through the Nexis app rather than running permanently.

A microphone, too: The housing includes a microphone with Qualcomm noise- and echo-cancellation technology, intended to keep speech clear during calls, video conferencing or voice chat — useful when the connected headphones are handling playback and the UP Play is left managing the microphone side of things.
