Luxman NT-07 Network Transport – Central digital interface

High-end 2024 in Munich will provide a worthy setting for Luxman Corporation to present its first streaming solution, the new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport, from the long-established Japanese HiFi manufacturer.

Story Highlights
  • Luxman Corporation will be presenting a streaming solution for the first time at High-end 2024 in the form of the new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport.

The Luxman NT-07 Network Transport is a first for the renowned Japanese High-end HiFi manufacturer Luxman Corporation, as it is the first streaming solution that the company will be presenting at the High End 2024 in Munich. It utilises the latest digital audio technology and combines this with the experience of Luxman Corporation’s developers.

In line with the company’s philosophy, the manufacturer promises a thoroughly audio-focussed approach to guarantee a wide range of available sources with outstanding sound quality and a sophisticated yet comfortable operating environment.

Central digital interface

As the name suggests, the new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport is not a streaming client, but merely a streaming transport. This product therefore does without an integrated D/A converter and deliberately delegates this subtle task to an external specialist.

However, and this is very exciting, this solution not only has numerous digital outputs, but just as many digital inputs. This makes it the central digital interface of a HiFi chain.

The new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport is integrated into the network solely via an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet interface, so there is no WiFi or Bluetooth.

At the rear, there are two USB ports designed as USB-A, one of which is designed for external D/A converters, the second for storage media. There is a further USB-A port at the front, which is also designed for the integration of corresponding storage media.

It is interesting to note that the Luxman NT-07 Network Transport has two HDMI interfaces, one as an input and one as an output, whereby the latter naturally supports an ARC, i.e. an Audio Return Channel for the signal transmission of TV sound. The Luxman NT-07 Network Transport supports 4K pass-through and can of course process audio data via HDMI in stereo only.

The Luxman NT-07 Network Transport also features an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface as additional digital outputs.

From UPnP to Roon

The Luxman NT-07 Network Transport is designed for streaming via UPnP, using the OpenHome standard. It also supports TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect and is due to receive Roon-ready certification from Roon Labs LLC. these days.

According to the manufacturer, services such as Qobuz and TuneIn for Internet radio and podcasts will also be available via the Luxman Stream App, which was specially developed for this solution.

Playback from USB

As we have already mentioned, the new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport is also equipped for direct playback of audio data from USB storage media connected to it, whereby it can also utilise its full potential when it comes to resolution.

Audio data can be played back from USB storage media in the common formats with up to 32 bit and 768 kHz in Linear PCM and DSD256.

Of course, the Luxman NT-07 Network Transport also achieves these resolutions when playing back audio data via UPnP from the network, whereby the manufacturer refers here to high-quality NAS systems that have been specially developed for High-end HiFi, such as those from Melco Audio, in order to guarantee the best possible results.

The new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport supports audio data in Linear PCM with up to 24 bit and 192 kHz via HDMI; this also applies to the optical and coaxial S/PDIF interfaces.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport has a re-sampling function so that the output via the digital interfaces can be optimally adapted to the external D/A converter used. This also applies to data encoded in MQA, for which the ‘Off’, ‘Core Decoding’ and ‘Pass-through’ modes are available, depending on what the D/A converter is capable of.

A few details…

The new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport presents itself in the familiar elegant design of Luxman Corporation, weighing in at 10.3 kg with dimensions of 440 x 92 x 398 mm. This is primarily due to the high-quality power supply.

A comparatively small OLED display adorns the front and an infrared remote control is included in the scope of delivery.

Prices and availability

The new Luxman NT-07 Network Transport is set to celebrate its big premiere at High-end 2024, but it is already available from specialist retailers. The recommended retail price is listed at € 7.990,-.

Getting to the point

The Luxman NT-07 Network Transport, which will be presented for the first time at High End 2024 in Munich, represents the premiere for the Japanese high-end HiFi manufacturer Luxman Corporation in the streaming sector. The focus here is explicitly on pure signal processing on a digital level, thus dispensing with an integrated D/A converter. However, digital interfaces are also provided here to make the Luxman NT-07 Network Transport the central component for digital signals in a HiFi chain.
