Ruark MR1 MK3 All-in-One - Almost everything new in the third generation

The compact audio system from English HiFi manufacturer Ruark Audio, the Ruark MR1 MK3, has been completely redesigned from the ground up. The manufacturer promises even better performance and improved sound quality for one of its most important products in the broad product range.

Story Highlights
  • It is one of the most popular products from the English company Ruark Audio, which is now presenting it in its latest generation as the Ruark MR1 MK3.

With the Ruark MR1 MK3, the renowned company Ruark Audio presents a compact audio system in its latest, now third generation, which is one of the most important solutions in the English company’s broad product range. In order to prolong its success in the future, the Ruark MR1 MK3 has been completely redeveloped, as the manufacturer promises.

The system is set to offer even better performance and sound quality, making it once again an exceptionally versatile solution that can be used in a wide variety of application scenarios, starting as an audio solution for TV, as a desktop audio system at the workplace or as a compact HiFi system.

All the expertise from 40 years of development in the audio sector

Ruark has been developing and designing its products in-house since 1985, with a commitment to excellence in audio quality and craftsmanship in design. The new Ruark MR1 Mk3 reflects this heritage, combining over four decades of acoustic expertise into a beautifully crafted, compact, active speaker system.

Compact All-in-One system

The third generation of the Ruark M1 is also designed in the proven manner of a very compact All-in-One system. The Ruark MR1 MK3 ultimately presents itself as a pair of very compact active loudspeakers that take up hardly any space and can therefore easily be placed anywhere. To put it in figures, the new Ruark MR1 MK3 measures 185 x 135 x 155 mm and thus weighs 2.2 kg per speaker.

Two-way bass reflex system

The Ruark MR1 MK3 is designed to fulfil the requirements that would also be placed on conventional high-quality loudspeaker systems. The developers have therefore opted for a two-way bass reflex system, using the latest Ruark NS+ 85 mm long-throw bass/midrange drivers with a treated natural fibre cone. This is joined by a 20 mm silk dome tweeter and a crossover tuned for these drivers. For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that the bass reflex system is led out to the rear. This means that a frequency range between 50 Hz and 22 kHz can be reproduced. If desired, a subwoofer can also be integrated via a separate output. In this regard, reference is of course made to a product from our own company, the Ruark RS1 subwoofer.

The drivers are powered by a Class D amplifier module, which is based on a development that was first conceived for the Ruark R410.

Elegant appearance

The housing of the Ruark MR1 MK3 is made of wood for the best results, with bevelled front edges and a new, slate grey front cover to guarantee an even more elegant appearance than its predecessors. Customers can choose between an anthracite or walnut finish.

Flexible thanks to all relevant connections

The Ruark MR1 MK3 will primarily be used with smartphones and tablets as flexible sources, as it is equipped with a Bluetooth module that supports SBC and AAC as well as aptX and aptX HD, allowing lossless signal transmission up to 24 bit and 48 kHz from a wide range of streaming services. Only the corresponding app needs to be installed on the smartphone or tablet.

Various other sources can be connected via a combined analogue Line In and optical S/PDIF, first and foremost a TV set, of course, but also other streaming devices that can be integrated into a wireless network.

It is also interesting to note that the new Ruark MR1 MK3 even has an integrated phono preamp, which is designed for drives equipped with MM cartridge systems.

There is also a USB port that allows direct connection to a PC or Mac.

“When my father and I founded Ruark in 1985, our goal was to develop speakers that convey the true emotion of music. The MR1 MK3 epitomises this vision – combining craftsmanship, innovation and sound quality in a form that fits modern life.”

Alan O’Rourke, Managing Director of Ruark

Getting to the point

The Ruark MR1 All-in-One system was first presented in 2013 and has been so successful right from the start that it has been one of Ruark Audio’s most important products for years. The fact that the English company is now talking about having redeveloped this system from scratch for the third generation in order to further improve the performance spectrum and sound quality is therefore not at all surprising, as they want to continue the success with the new Ruark MR1 MK3.
