Thorens PhonoConnect Series – New cables from Thorens

Cables are generally an often underestimated part of an audio system, as they ultimately provide the connection between the individual components and therefore contribute significantly to the quality of the entire chain. Choosing the right cable is of course particularly critical where particularly weak signals need to be transmitted, such as between a record player and phono preamp or amplifier with integrated phono preamp.

The German record specialist Thorens GmbH now wants to tackle this tricky task with its own newly developed product line of cables, the Thorens PhonoConnect Series, as the company has now announced.

Setting new standards

Thorens GmbH has big plans, as the company claims to want to set new standards in connection technology between record players and amplifiers with the solutions of the new Thorens PhonoConnect Series.

To achieve this, the company not only relies on its own decades of experience, but also on careful design and high-quality materials.

According to Gunter Kürten, CEO of Thorens GmbH, the declared aim is clearly to guarantee music lovers an unrivalled sound experience with the cables of the new Thorens PhonoConnect Series.

Optimised for signal transmission with record players

Getting to the point, it is crucial to use high-quality cables, especially when it comes to record players, as comparatively weak signals need to be transmitted.

For the new Thorens PhonoConnect Series, for example, Thorens GmbH relies on cables with a particularly low capacitance to guarantee the best possible preservation of the phono signal. In addition, only high-quality, gold-plated plugs are used, which prevent corrosion and thus ensure a loss-free, optimal connection in the long term.

The labels also have a length of 1.5 metres, which is appropriate for the price, and are as discreet and elegant as possible, as it is not always possible to lay cables in such a way that they are not visible.

The individual models in the series differ initially in the choice of conductors, with two product lines – Thorens PhonoConnect Silver Line and Thorens Connect Copper Line – available. In addition, the customer can choose between different connectors, be it RCA to RCA, DIN to RCA, DIN to XLR or XLR to XLR.

Thorens PhonoConnect Silver Line

The first cable variant in the new Thorens PhonoConnect Series is the Thorens PhonoConnect Silver Line, which, how could it be otherwise, uses silver conductors. In fact, fine strands in pure silver are used, as explained further, which is expected to maximise conductivity with an extremely low capacitance of less than 90 pF for an interference-free connection and a linear frequency response up to the highest tones. It is not least these crystal-clear highs combined with precise mids that should predestine the Thorens PhonoConnect Silver Line for audiophile music lovers.

Thorens PhonoConnect Copper Line

The cables in the Thorens PhonoConnect Copper Line use conductors made of high-purity copper, which is even referred to as high-purity OCC copper conductors. This refers to a cable that is manufactured in a highly complex production process, as copper wires are used here that are first subjected to a special melting process and then develop an almost monocrystalline structure during drawing, which should guarantee the basis for particularly precise signal transmission and, according to Thorens GmbH, a warm, balanced sound.

Here, too, the outstanding conductivity and an extremely low capacitance of less than 90 pF are emphasised, which should make a significant contribution to guaranteeing the promised optimum signal transmission with a linear frequency response.
