Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt and Rega Reference EBLT Drive Belt

The drive belt is an essential component of record players when it comes to quality, so manufacturers are always coming up with new developments. For example, the English hi-fi manufacturer Rega Research Limited now offers the Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt and the Rega Reference EBLT Drive Belt.

Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt and Rega Reference EBLT Drive Belt, that’s how the English HiFi forge Rega Research Limited describes its latest tuning options for the complete range of turntables.

The drive belt has a very important role to play when it comes to appropriately designed turntables. It is the connection between the motor and the turntable and is therefore essential for the overall smoothness and quality of the turntable. Unfortunately, however, it is often the case that this fact is not properly appreciated.

Rega Research Limited wants to set a new course here and states that they can now achieve a striking improvement with the aforementioned new drive belts, so that they have decided that from now on all turntables of the current product range will be equipped with the Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt, ex works as standard. In addition, the Rega Reference EBLT Drive Belt is available as an optional upgrade for the drives in the upper segment.

Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt for all Rega Planar models, Rega Reference EBLT Drive Belt for high-end models
Originally, the Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt was only designed for the high-end models, but in the end it was decided to make it standard on all Rega Planar models, as described.

Rega Research Limited has invested heavily in new tooling and research to produce higher volumes so that the Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt can now be offered as an upgrade option for existing customers.

Each belt is moulded on high-precision, customised tools using a unique, secret compound. The company only states that it is an Advanced EBLT monomer. Moulding is followed by cryogenic treatment, meaning the belts are frozen and machined in a drum to remove excess flash and achieve a perfectly rounded cross-section, which is critical for accurate speed and stability.

The new belt brings a remarkable reduction in weighted peak wow and flutter, he said, due to the increased accuracy and cross-section roundness of the EBLT belt. The standard belt measures 0.253 per cent, the new Rega Advanced EBLT measures 0.162 per cent and the Rega Reference EBLT even measures only 0.075 per cent.

Apart from the higher quality, the service life is also said to have been increased. Under normal use and conditions, the manufacturer claims that the service life of the new Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt is 50 per cent longer than that of the previous model.

Getting to the point

From now on, every Rega Research Limited turntable will be equipped with the new Rega Advanced EBLT Drive Belt, which allows for a significantly more precise playback and at the same time increases the life span. In addition, drives in the high-end segment can be upgraded with the optional Rega Reference EBLT Drive Belt, which is said to offer a further increase in precision.
