Blues Company ‘Ain’t nothing but…’ in strictly limited edition as DMM and reel-to-reel tape

The Blues Company has been a permanent fixture on the blues scene for decades. The band from Osnabrück was founded back in 1976 by Todor Todorovic and Christian Rannenberg. The formation is said to be one of the leading pioneers of the blues in Germany, and the fact is that they are clearly one of the most successful formations in this genre.

Over the decades, the Blues Company has not only played over 4,000 gigs in 14 countries around the world, but has also recorded an impressive 26 albums since the very first album in 1980.

Silent Concert in 2015

In 2015, the band decided to play a very special concert, a so-called silent concert. The special thing about this is that the audience are all equipped with headphones. Such events naturally take place on a very small scale, which means that only a comparatively small number of people can take part – there were around 100 at the Blues Company’s Silent Concert in 2015, for example.

In addition to Todor “Tosho” Todorovic on guitar and lead vocals, Mike Titre on guitar, Adrian “Adman” Müller on bass and keyboards and Florian Schaube on drums also took part. They were supported by The Fabulous BC Horns with Uwe Holopp and Volker Winck as well as The Soul Sistaz with Seda Devran and Klara Preuß.

The visitors who were lucky enough to take part in this event were able to relax on sofas and beanbags between floor lamps and not only experience a band in top form, but also enjoy perfect sound. The fact that it was a comparatively small room and there was no need for a PA system to provide sound for the audience meant that the acoustic conditions were perfect for creating a perfect stereo mix and the best opportunity to capture the whole thing on tape.

The resulting album “Ain’t nothing but…” was released by the German label in-akustik GmbH & Co. KG as a limited deluxe edition in the form of an audio CD plus DVD and is of course long out of print, which means that the few albums available on the second-hand market fetch very high prices.

So it’s high time to reissue the album, although the decision has now been made in favour of vinyl and “Ain’t nothing but…” is being offered by the Blues Company as a strictly limited remaster on vinyl.

“Ain’t nothing but…” – DMM vinyl limited to 500 copies

The original analogue recordings of the live concert were used as the basis for the vinyl record and a new master tape was created on analogue two-track tape, which in turn formed the basis for the DMM cut without any detours, so that it is referred to as an Original Analogue Master Edition.

The audiophile pressing, which is intended to provide an unrivalled listening experience, is also explicitly mentioned. Furthermore, and this is not insignificant, each of the 500 albums has been personally signed by the mastermind of the Blues Company, Todo “Tosho” Todorovic.

“Ain’t nothing but…” as a reel-to-reel tape

This very special live recording is also available as a reel-to-reel tape, whereby the highest production standards were also applied here. Professional Studer 80 tape machines were used and 1/4 inch 2-track stereo with CCIR equalisation at a recording speed of 38 cm/s was employed. The tape material used was RTM LPR90 with a reference level of 320 nWb/m.

This is exactly what happened during a so-called silent concert in 2015 by the legendary Blues Company. This live recording has now been remastered by in-akustik GmbH & Co. KG, directly from the analogue recording, and is now presented in the form of a DMM vinyl strictly limited to 500 copies, but also in the form of reel-to-reel tapes.
