Shokz OpenRun Pro – Sports Headphones with 9th Generation Bone Sound

Bone-Conduction Technology, or also bone-sound technology, is the functional principle with which the solutions from Shokz work, which are especially suitable for use in sports. The latest offspring of the company is presented in the form of the Shokz OpenRun Pro.

With the Shokz OpenRun Pro, headphones are available that are specifically designed for use during sports. Excellent fit, uncompromising safety, but also outstanding sound quality are supposed to distinguish this solution from Shokz Holding Limited.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro uses a very special technology that the manufacturer calls bone-conduction technology, which can be figuratively described as bone-sound technology.

Shokz OpenRun Pro – The new flagship product

The Texan company Shokz was previously known as AfterShokz, but has now decided to sharpen its brand profile and in the course of this to give itself the new, shorter name.

In fact, the Austin-based company has been around for more than ten years, so the aforementioned bone-conduction technology, which is a company patent, has already been optimised and improved over many years, with the new Shokz OpenRun Pro being the crowning achievement so far and thus taking on the role of the new flagship in the Shokz range.

Bone-Conduction Technology

The so-called bone-conduction technology describes a principle in which the sound is not transmitted directly via the user’s hearing, but rather via a small “diversions”, namely via the cheekbone. This has the advantage that the ears remain free, which is supposed to ensure safety, especially during sports, as the user can still perceive the surroundings.

In addition, some users simply find it uncomfortable to wear in-ear headphones, which would normally be the first choice for sports activities. Headphones with bone-sound technology can then be an alternative.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro are based on the ninth generation of Shokz’s patented bone-conduction technology and are said to offer powerful bass, accentuated mid-range and particularly clear treble, while at the same time optimising vibration behaviour, according to the manufacturer’s promise. In short, with the help of the Shokz OpenRun Pro, the user should be offered a sound experience of the same high quality as with conventional headphones.

Excellent ergonomics and a secure fit

Especially when it comes to sports, it is crucial that a pair of headphones fits perfectly, thus providing a secure fit, but at the same time not interfering. That’s exactly what the new Shokz OpenRun Pro is designed to provide, a comfortable, secure fit even during vigorous head movements.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro has an IP55 certification and is therefore suitable for all weather conditions and is extremely robust.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro is based on a particularly robust, slim and lightweight titanium headband, which is specially shaped to fit over the ear and hold it securely in place.

For easy operation, the new Shokz OpenRun Pro is equipped with particularly generously designed buttons that allow control of the volume as well as playback, and telephone calls can of course also be made at any time via integrated microphones with dual noise-cancelling technology.

Bluetooth with Bluetooth Multipoint Pairing

Of course, the signal transmission of the new Shokz OpenRun Pro is done via Bluetooth, whereby it supports Bluetooth multipoint pairing for simultaneous connection with several mobile devices. This means that it can be connected to a portable audio player and a smartphone at the same time, for example, but it is also possible to use it with a notebook and a smartphone at the same time when using it in the office.

For the Shokz OpenRun Pro, the so-called Shokz App is available for Apple iOS and Google Android, with the help of which this solution can be individually configured and the voice transmission can be further optimised.

Long battery life, fast charging

The new Shokz OpenRun Pro is said to offer a battery life of up to ten hours, according to the manufacturer’s promise. Via a Quick Charge function, just five minutes on the mains are enough to provide a playing time of one and a half hours again. Charging is done via a special cable that is fixed to the Shokz OpenRun Pro by means of magnets.

Prices and availability

The new Shokz OpenRun Pro should be available in specialist shops by the end of February 2022. According to the manufacturer, the colour variants black and blue will be available at that time. Subsequently, the pink and beige versions will be available as alternatives. The recommended retail price is € 189.95.

Getting to the point

For many people, music during sports is indispensable, and of course the market offers countless solutions specially designed for this task. The products of Shokz Holding Limited represent a very special solution, because the US company has specialised in exactly this area. However, the company does not rely on classic concepts, but rather on its own patented bone-conduction technology. In the new Shokz OpenRun Pro, this technology is already being used in the ninth generation and guarantees a particularly appealing sound experience.
