The new systems of the Japanese electronics specialist Rotel Co. Ltd. are designed as 5-channel or even 7-channel power amplifiers and are now presented in the form of the Rotel RMB-1585MKII and Rotel RMB-1587MKII. Both multi-channel power amplifiers are supposed to be audiophile high-performance amplifier systems, which are of course primarily aimed at particularly demanding home cinema enthusiasts.
Rotel Co. Ltd. also emphasises that the two new solutions, Rotel RMB-1587MKII and Rotel RMB-1585MKII, can also be used in custom installations to provide solutions of the highest quality.
Rotel RMB-1585MKII and Rotel RMB-1587MKII with Rotel MKII design architecture
According to the Japanese electronics specialist, the two multi-channel power amplifiers follow the Rotel MKII design architecture, which is said to result in considerable improvements in both the circuitry and the components, both in the power supply, which is particularly important for all power amplifiers, and in the amplifier stages themselves. This results in extremely low distortion, highest signal fidelity and a high output power, as the manufacturer explicitly emphasises.
Rotel Co. Ltd. also emphasises that their approach is completely different from that of many of their competitors in the field of multi-channel systems. Thus, they refrain from trying to show off with performance figures that are only impressive on paper, but can never be achieved in practice.
Practical performance specifications
In contrast to multi-channel amplifier systems, the two new multi-channel power amplifiers Rotel RMB-1587MKII and Rotel RMB-1585MKII are said to show no drop in performance when all channels are driven simultaneously. The values that the company states in the data sheet therefore correspond to the values that the user can actually use in practice.
In concrete terms, this means that the Rotel RMB-1587MKII can deliver 155 watts into 8 ohms on all seven channels, or even 250 watts per channel into 4 ohms. The new Rotel RMB-1585MKII provides 210 watts into 8 ohms and 340 watts into 4 ohms per channel.
Both the Rotel RMB-1587MKII and Rotel RMB-1585MKII multi-channel power amplifiers use a Class AB amplifier design and a powerful power supply based on toroidal transformers manufactured directly by Rotel Co Ltd, each supported by eight highly efficient storage capacitors.
This ensures that the two multi-channel power amplifiers always have sufficient power reserves for a controlled reproduction with dynamics and full liveliness, as the manufacturer states.
The fact that such power is also accompanied by corresponding waste heat is inherent in the system, so that four thermo-controlled, speed-regulated and thus extremely quiet fans are used for optimal cooling.
Best equipped for home cinema and custom installation
As further proof that the two multi-channel power amplifiers Rotel RMB-1587MKII and Rotel RMB-1585MKII are ideally equipped for home cinema and custom installation, automatically switchable XLR as well as RCA inputs are to be occupied, via which these systems can be easily combined with any AV processor or AV preamplifier in the home cinema, but also with a wide variety of sources in the custom installation segment.
Central control is guaranteed via 12 V triggers and, of course, there is the option of installing the systems in a standard 19-inch rack using the appropriate rack-mounting kit.
Prices and availability
The two new multi-channel amplifiers Rotel RMB-1587MKII and Rotel RMB-1585MKII are expected to be available in stores within the next few days, with a choice of silver or black. The recommended retail price for the Rotel RMB-1587MKII is € 4.399,- and for the Rotel RMB-1585MKII € 4.199,-.
