It is a new type of speaker that is now available with the Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E and Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E Carbon, says the Austrian company Pro-Ject Audio Systems about the latest solutions in the so-called Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series, which were presented for the first time at High-end 2024 in Munich.
The declared aim of these two new solutions is to provide fine sound wherever there is little or no room for conventional speaker systems. The Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E and, above all, the Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E Carbon are designed to impress with their impressive superiority despite their very small dimensions and very attractive prices.

The fact that Pro-Ject Audio Systems is now taking on particularly compact solutions with the latest additions to the Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series can be traced back to a request from Heinz Lichtenegger himself.
The founder and CEO of Pro-Ject Audio Systems has always dreamed of an audiophile micro loudspeaker that can be placed anywhere and is therefore designed as a kind of loudspeaker for all occasions.
Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3 – The particularly affordable entry-level speaker
The Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E is a particularly compact solution, measuring just 160 x 106 x 152 mm and weighing in at 1,37 kg per speaker.
This solution is made from an MDF housing, which is designed to prevent resonances that could damage the sound. There is a choice of high-gloss black, high-gloss white and walnut finishes and a speaker cover magnetically attached to the baffle is included in the scope of delivery.
The new Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E is a two-way bass reflex system with a 0,75 inch silk dome tweeter in combination with a 3 inch fibreglass woofer. The bass reflex system is directed towards the rear.
The manufacturer speaks of a solution with low colouration and high transparency and specifies a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, a sensitivity of 85 dB and a frequency response of 89 Hz to 20 kHz.
It should be mentioned that an optional wall bracket is available for this solution, meaning that the Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E can cut a fine figure not only as a desktop audio system in stereo, but also as a surround speaker in a small home cinema, for example.
Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E Carbon – Compact audiophile loudspeaker
The new Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E Carbon is a compact, yet very appealing solution; Pro-Ject Audio Systems itself even speaks of an audiophile solution in the compact class.
The speaker system measures 175 x 119 x 152 mm and thus weighs 1,69 kg each, as the data sheet reveals.
Naturally, this is also a two-way bass reflex system, with an enclosure made of MDF, optimised for the lowest possible resonances and vibrations, forming the basis for the 0,75 inch silk dome tweeter and the 3 inch woofer made of glass fibre-carbon composite material. The bass reflex system is also routed out of the rear of this speaker system.
The manufacturer promises a flat frequency response with tight bass reproduction and appealing spatial imaging for the Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E Carbon, whereby this means a frequency response of 83 Hz to 20 kHz with an impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 85 dB.
You can choose between a matt black, matt white or walnut finish, with a magnetically held speaker grille included in the scope of delivery. An optional wall-mounting device is also available.
Prices and availability
The new models in the Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series should be available from specialist retailers in the next few days. The Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E will cost € 199,- in black and white and € 229,- in walnut. The Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3E Carbon will be available in black and white for € 299,- and in walnut for € 349,-.
