- To enable balanced signal routing, Pro-Ject Audio Systems is now upgrading the Pro-Ject Debut PRO S to the Pro-Ject Debut PRO S Balanced Turntable.
It is a record player that continues the Pro-Ject Debut PRO Series with style, is how Pro-Ject Audio Systems described the Pro-Ject Debut PRO S turntable at its market launch and explicitly pointed out that it was a solution aimed at particularly discerning music lovers and HiFi enthusiasts. It is a turntable that also offers style and elegance, invites interaction and thus conveys the lifestyle that vinyl conveys in the best possible way.
The latest version of the Pro-Ject Debut PRO S turntable is now available, focussing on symmetrical signal routing so that this record player from Pro-Ject Audio Systems can also contribute to making a symmetrical connection option the standard for record players.
A particularly elegant turntable
The Pro-Ject Debut PRO S Balanced Turntable naturally impresses once again with its extremely elegant, superior appearance, which undoubtedly ensures that this turntable is a real eye-catcher in any living environment.
The drive measures 462 x 145 x 345 mm and features an eight-layer hand-painted MDF chassis, which weighs in at an impressive 7 kg with all superstructures and the dust cover included in the scope of delivery.
Naturally, the turntable rests on height-adjustable feet, guaranteeing optimum positioning. The feet of the Pro-Ject Debut PRO S Balanced Turntable are made of aluminium and anodised in black.
Excellent features
The new Pro-Ject Debut PRO S Balanced Turntable is designed in the tried and tested manner as a belt-driven turntable, with a diamond-cut aluminium sub-platter, which should help to guarantee increased speed accuracy. However, a particularly important factor here is the actual platter, which is also made of aluminium, initially using a die-casting process and then manufactured with the highest precision using CNC.
In addition, a ring made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) is used on the inside of the platter, which completely dampens resonances and also minimises synchronisation fluctuations due to its mass.
The motor is controlled by means of electronic speed control, allowing easy switching between 33 1/3 and 45 revolutions per minute. A special round belt included in the scope of delivery also supports 78 revolutions per minute for playing shellac.
It should be mentioned in this context that a premium DC/AC current generator is used, as described by Pro-Ject Audio Systems itself, which ensures a completely clean, new sine wave for the drive. Nevertheless, you can of course upgrade and replace the 15 V DC 0.8 A plug-in power supply included in the scope of delivery with a Pro-Ject Power Box S3 Phono, which, according to the manufacturer, brings a further significant improvement in sound quality and also ensures a clean cable solution free of cable clutter, as it can also be used to operate a phono preamp from Pro-Ject Audio Systems.
A special feature of the Pro-Ject Debut PRO S Balanced Turntable is, of course, the tonearm used here; the fact that this is an S-shaped model is already clear from the product name.
Pro-Ject Audio Systems relies on an aluminium tonearm, anodised in black, which is intended to provide excellent damping and, with its length of 10 inches, guarantees perfect tracking of the record groove with minimal tracking error.
The special S-shape has the advantage of increasing the effective mass compared to straight tonearms, so that this tonearm can also be used with heavy MC cartridge systems without any problems.
It is therefore a perfect fit that the tonearm of the new Pro-Ject Debut PRO S Balanced Turntable is equipped with an SME-compatible bayonet lock so that the cartridge system can be replaced without any problems.
Of course, the tonearm also allows easy adjustment of the TVA and azimuth, which also makes it easier to change the cartridge, as well as the use of different platter supports.
Now with symmetrical connection option
Previously, the Pro-Ject Debut PRO S turntable only had a pair of RCA sockets for connection, but now there is also a balanced mini XLR on the redesigned connection panel. However, the scope of delivery still only includes an RCA cable, although the manufacturer itself refers to the Pro-Ject Connect it Phono E RCA as a semi-balanced phono cable.
MM cartridge system pre-assembled ex works
This is mainly due to the fact that an MM cartridge system is pre-installed at the factory, namely a Pro-Ject Pick it S2 C MM cartridge. This can of course be replaced at any time by an MC cartridge system in order to utilise the full potential of the turntable with a balanced cable connection and a Pro-Ject Phono Box S3 B or Pro-Ject Phono Box DS3 B, for example.
