The new Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM Power Amplifier is a mono power amplifier of the latest generation of the Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA Series presented by the English high-end hi-fi manufacturer Musical Fidelity. According to the English company, this power amplifier is the first solution that is fully symmetrical, a discrete power amplifier with the legendary Musical Fidelity Class A Nu-Vista Stage, and is also equipped with an external power supply for best results.
Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM Power Amplifier – Based on the Musical Fidelity Titan
The Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM Power Amplifier features the proven Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista structure with 6S51N Nuvistors in a discrete Class A amplifier buffer.
This is followed by a balanced circuit and a “bridged” power amplifier with high output and low distortion. The power amplifiers feature two times five pairs of thermally compensated high power amplifiers for reliable and stable operation. Based on the Musical Fidelity Titan, it has separate capacitors for the main feed and one capacitor each for the power amp to reduce output impedance and improve dynamics. Additional chokes provide even better reduction of supply ripple and pulse current spikes. The bias is designed for initial Class A operation of over 5 W, after which the stage slides into Class B operation at a point where the now much lower distortion is easier to manage than the “standard” distortion of a crossover, as the manufacturer states.
The so-called Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista Stage is, as already mentioned, based on eight 6S51N Nuvistor tubes, which have their roots in the 1950s. That’s when they were developed as an alternative to tubes of conventional design. Nuvistor tubes convince with a very high reliability, low sensitivity to microphonics, low noise, a high consistency from batch to batch, a small size and last but not least a comparatively low power consumption.
However, these tubes did not enjoy too much success, because transistor technology established itself almost at the same time. Nevertheless, many a legendary solution relied on Nuvistor tubes, and these components usually played a significant role in their success.
Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM PSU – Powerful Power Supply
The Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM Power Amplifier comes with its own external power supply. This step was taken in order to achieve a better noise behaviour, whereby ultimately a very powerful additional device has to find its place in the rack.
In this mighty housing of the Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM PSU, besides an impressive toroidal transformer, an additional mains and output filtering finds its place. This makes the power supplies quieter and virtually eliminates mains-related artefacts in the sensitive audio circuits, according to Musical Fidelity’s promise.
Up to 1.500 watts…
When the Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM Power Amplifier flexes its muscles, it delivers 600 watts to speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms, as much as 1.000 watts at 4 ohms and up to 1.500 watts at an impedance of only 2 ohms.
Two RCA and two XLR inputs are available, and outputs in the form of one RCA and one XLR can be used to drive additional amplifiers. For the connection of the loudspeaker systems, solidly constructed screw terminals are available. Of course, trigger inputs and outputs are available at the rear, and the front of the Musical Fidelity NU-VISTA PAM Power Amplifier is adorned with a colour display that can effectively show a VU meter.
With dimensions of 483 x 187.56 x 475 mm, the amplifier itself weighs an impressive 27 kg, and the power supply, which has the same dimensions as the mono block, weighs an additional 40 kg.
