Designed for the passionate audiophile who wants to own a truly exclusive hi-fi system, Simaudio Ltd. describes the stereo combination now being presented by the Moon by Simaudio brand to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary, the Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition based on the Moon 680D Streaming DAC and the Moon 600i v2 Integrated Amplifier.
40 years, the Canadian high-end hi-fi manufacturer Simaudio Ltd. can celebrate this anniversary this year with its Moon by Simaudio brand. 40 years of high fidelity, from the company’s point of view this is a story that represents 40 years of common striving for first-class solutions and therefore has to be celebrated in a fitting manner. Like so many companies, the Canadians do this by presenting special products. Products that should represent in the best possible way what the brand stands for, that express the special philosophy of the company, but also pay tribute to the people who ultimately make up the company and lead it to success with sometimes decades of dedication.
From Simaudio Ltd.’s point of view, it was clear from the very beginning that products that were to be designed as worthy anniversary models for the 40th anniversary had to be classic stereo solutions, which on the one hand were to be of a special quality level, but on the other hand also represented modern high-end hi-fi solutions in the best possible way. The decision was made to use a very special combination of the Moon 680D Streaming DAC and the Moon 600i v2 Integrated Amplifier, which are now available as the Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition. The Limited Edition of these are true icons, solutions designed for the passionate audiophile who wants to own a truly exclusive system. No more than 40 Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition will be available.
With the Moon 600i v2 Integrated Amplifier and Moon 680D Streaming DAC solutions, two components would be available that are outstanding in their own right, but when combined, form a congenial duo. In the Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition it is even an almost unique HiFi system.
Since Simaudio Ltd. has always placed great value on impeccable equipment with flawless workmanship, it is of course not easy to go one better in this respect. They have tried, however, and have done so by using a unique blend of materials to create a remarkable design.
The Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition solutions use metal elements in millesime red, and the manufacturer speaks of a modern, contemporary, but also very unusual design. The aim is to create stylistic elements that continue the history of the company’s origins in 1980. And where the manufacturer’s emblem is normally emblazoned on the top of each component, there is now also a metal emblem, but now in rose gold, with the manufacturer’s logo and individual serial number.
The serial number is particularly important in this case, as there will be no more than 40 Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition.
From a purely technical point of view, the solutions of the Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition are of course the systems from the regular portfolio.
The Moon 680D Streaming DAC is therefore an outstanding streaming client based on the MiND 2 platform. This stands for Moon Intelligent Network Device and describes what the manufacturer believes to be an outstandingly accurate high-resolution streaming platform that can process audio data at up to 32 bits and 384 kHz as Linear PCM, as well as DSD up to DSD256 and MQA. The platform is Roon Ready certified and also allows access to various streaming platforms, be it TIDAL, Qobuz or Deezer. The outstanding digital signal processing is not only available for streaming, as a certified D/A converter, external sources can also be integrated. Besides USB, AES/EBU as well as optical and coaxial S/PDIF are available. Bluetooth including support for aptX is also offered.
The Moon 600i v2 Integrated Amplifier is based on a so-called “No overall feedback” Amplifier Circuit Design, which, according to the manufacturer, guarantees a particularly accurate musical performance. The heart of the system is an oversized dual-mono power supply, which is ideally equipped for high dynamics. The amplifier delivers 125 watts per channel to loudspeaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms, or twice 250 watts if the loudspeaker systems have an impedance of only 4 ohms. The Moon 600i v2 Integrated Amplifier operates at up to 5 watts in Class A alone. Other special features include the fact that each input is Home Theatre Ready and can therefore be individually configured. Four inputs are available as pairs of RCA sockets, one balanced as XLR.
The Moon 680D Streaming DAC measures 47.6 cm in width, 10.2 cm in height and 42.7 cm in depth, making it an impressive 18 kg. The Moon 600i v2 Integrated Amplifier measures 47.6 x 10.2 x 46 cm and weighs in at 21 kg.
Of course, the systems of the Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition are available with a matching remote control. The remote control is made of metal in the proven manner and is also presented in the design of the Moon 40th Anniversary Special Limited Edition, i.e. Millesime Red.
To emphasize it again, only 40 of these noble solutions are manufactured, so you shouldn’t take too long if you want to buy them. But one thing is clear, it will not be cheap. € 33.000,- is the price on the manufacturer’s website.
