Music in thrilling surround sound will soon be available in Mercedes S-Class and Mercedes Maybach vehicles via the Burmester 3D High-end Surround Sound System and Burmester 4D High-end Surround Sound System. Both will be able to offer Dolby Atmos in summer 2022.
Mercedes Benz AG and Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH are convinced that the Burmester 4D High-end Surround Sound System and the Burmester 3D High-end Surround Sound System will raise music enjoyment in cars to a new level of quality.
Together with Dolby Laboratories, the Burmester 3D High-end Surround Sound System and Burmester 4D High-end Surround Sound System will bring Dolby Atmos to selected luxury-class vehicles, such as the Mercedes S-Class and the Mercedes Maybach.
Music as pure emotion
Music is pure emotion, as Mercedes Benz AG attests, and this should also be experienced in the vehicle. Together with Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH and Dolby Laboratories, the company is now taking the quality of music in the vehicle to a completely new level and delivering a sound experience that has never been experienced in a car before.
First vehicles with Dolby Atmos from summer 2022
Dolby Atmos is to be offered in a number of top models from summer 2022, according to Mercedes Benz AG, which, as already indicated, wants to offer nothing less than the ultimate audio experience in cars.
The Dolby Atmos Music immersive audio experience adds space, clarity and depth to music, the company said. The technology allows music creators to place individual audio elements or objects in a three-dimensional sound field that goes beyond the capabilities of mono or stereo. With Dolby Atmos Music, one hears music with an unparalleled clarity that corresponds to the original vision of an artist in the studio. It is said that this step brings the studio directly into the car.

Dolby Atmos Music offers the possibility to use the full potential of these solutions of Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH. Dolby Atmos is to be offered as part of the optional Burmester 4D high-end surround sound system, but also as part of the Burmester 3D high-end surround sound system in the Mercedes Maybach brand vehicles and shortly thereafter in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles, thus transforming these vehicles into state-of-the-art concert halls on wheels.
“At Dolby, we are passionate about expanding the Dolby Atmos music experience so that consumers can enjoy it everywhere, and Mercedes-Benz shares our vision. We are excited to work with them to accelerate the adoption of this immersive listening experience in cars. The integration of Dolby Atmos into the S-Class and Mercedes-Maybach will provide customers with an additional premium feature, whether they’re in the driver’s seat or a passenger.”
