Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library - The New Reference in Music Server Systems

The high demands Melco Audio places on the latest solution of the Melco Digital Music Library Series is already clear from the product name Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library. This new system is nothing less than the new flagship.

Story Highlights
  • The new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library is set to be the new flagship in the field of music storage and playback solutions.

With the new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library, the Japanese expert in network solutions for audiophile hi-fi enthusiasts Melco Audio is launching a quite extraordinary new solution, namely the new flagship product that is intended to take the lead in the entire broad-based product range and thus set new standards in the management and provision of data for streaming at the very highest level.

The new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library is a digital music library based on a completely newly developed system that offers the best sound performance in the company’s history, according to Melco Audio’s full-bodied promise.

Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library – Completely Newly Developed

First and foremost, the new Melco N1-S38 is based on a completely newly developed mainboard and thus on a platform that ensures the best basis for exact signal processing by means of a particularly precise internal clocking based on a master clock from the track specialist NDK. If desired, the system clock can also be taken over from external sources, as the new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library has a 10 MHz master clock connection in the form of a BNC for this purpose.

To integrate the system into the network, there is an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet interface, but the new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library also has an SFP Fibre Port (Small Form Factor Pluggable). This means that it can be directly connected to the Melco S10 and the recently introduced Melco S100A, for example, whereby the signal transmission via fibre optics prevents the transmission of interference noise to begin with.

Of course, the new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library has separate connections for streaming clients, which should be explicitly emphasised at this point. These, as well as the already mentioned RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet interface for integration into the network, come from the specialist Neutrik.

In order to be able to directly connect storage media, CD drives for reading audio CDs and D/A converters, the new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library has a number of USB ports, whereby these are USB-A ports in the form of USB 3.0. No less than five of them can be found on this new solution from Melco Audio, first and foremost at the rear, but also directly at the front for particularly easy handling.

Ex works, the new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library is equipped with an SSD that has a storage capacity of 3.84 TByte. The manufacturer explicitly emphasises that they deliberately did without a RAID system in order to guarantee a direct data path for the best possible results, as they state on record.

Another feature that was built in to meet the reference claim is said to be a large, newly developed toroidal transformer, which was mounted on its own sub-chassis and which surpasses that of the previous flagship Melco N10/2. This is supported by a well-equipped capacitor bank.

Elegant appearance

The new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library is based on a new design with a particularly stable chassis construction. The stainless steel base plate has a thickness of 3 mm, is framed by a solid stainless steel frame, and precision-milled aluminium elements with a thickness of 2 mm on the sides and 5 mm on the front are used.

Incidentally, the front is adorned with an OLED display flanked by several buttons as central operating elements directly on the unit.

Prices and availability

The new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library should be available in specialist shops within the next few days, according to the manufacturer, who is offering this solution in either black or silver at a recommended retail price of € 13.999,-.

Getting to the point

It is the new flagship in the field of music servers or music libraries, as Melco Audio itself calls this product group, which is now available with the new Melco N1-S38 Reference Digital Music Library. This is said to be a completely newly developed system, in which once again everything has been done to function as a central data supplier for hi-res audio streaming solutions free of any interference.
