- The new solution from Masimo Consumer, the Marantz brand, is a stereo integrated amplifier with integrated streaming client: the Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier.
Building on the Marantz MODEL 50 Integrated Amplifier, which Masimo Consumer introduced last year together with the Marantz CD 50n Network CD Player, the company is now presenting the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier. This Marantz solution combines a stereo integrated amplifier with a flexible streaming client based on HEOS Built-in, a solution that can be categorised as ‘Just add speakers’ and is becoming increasingly popular with HiFi enthusiasts.
The manufacturer claims that the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier is designed to meet the highest standards, combining outstanding performance with comprehensive connectivity.
The perfect blend of performance and functionality
At the heart of the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier is, of course, a classic stereo amplifier, with a symmetrical Class AB amplifier design that uses the latest generation of Marantz HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) technology in a proven manner. Both Marantz HDAM SA2 and Marantz HDAM SA3 are used. A toroidal transformer is used to provide the appropriate power reserves.
The new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier is said to be able to deliver an impressive 60 watts into 8 ohms and 80 watts into 4 ohms, with the manufacturer once again emphasising the particularly high sound quality. The new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier has been tuned by the so-called Soundmasters at Marantz to deliver the characteristic clear and nuanced sound that you would expect from a solution from this brand.
From phono preamplifier to HDMI and Bluetooth
The new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier doesn’t offer all that many interfaces, but considering that it features three analogue inputs in the form of RCA phono sockets, a phono preamplifier designed for drives equipped with MM pickup systems, an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface for digital source devices and even an HDMI port with eARC for direct connection to a TV, there is actually nothing missing.
Especially since the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier also has a preamplifier output in the form of a pair of RCA jacks and a separate output for subwoofers, and an integrated headphone amplifier is not missing either. It should also be mentioned that remote control connections allow centralised control in conjunction with other Marantz brand solutions.
It goes without saying that smartphones and tablets can be easily integrated as a source via Bluetooth. A USB-A port is also included, allowing corresponding storage media to be used directly as a source.
Streaming via HEOS Built-in
When it comes to streaming, the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier once again relies on HEOS Built-in, the streaming technology that has been a staple of Marantz and Denon solutions for years and is continuously being developed and improved.
The stereo integrated amplifier with integrated streaming client can be connected to the network either via WiFi or the RJ45 Ethernet interface, giving you instant access to your own content via UPnP, as well as to a wide range of streaming services. The spectrum ranges from Spotify and TIDAL to Deezer, Amazon Music, Pandora and iHeard Radio.
HEOS Built-in also ensures a connection to the smart home, because this solution is compatible with voice control using Amazon Alexa. It should also be mentioned that, thanks to HEOS Built-in, the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier is also Roon Ready, so it can be used immediately with the media management and multi-room Hi-res audio streaming software from Roon Labs LLC. It also supports Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect technologies.
Speaking of Hi-res Audio, the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier is capable of processing audio data in Linear PCM at up to 24 bits and 192 kHz, as well as DSD including DSD128. However, a firmware update should soon make 32 bits and 384 kHz as well as DSD256 possible.
The HEOS app, which is available for Apple iOS and Google Android, is the main convenient control tool, and of course the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier comes with a matching infrared remote control.
A row of rotary encoders, including a tone control, can be found directly on the device, and of course the centrally located display in the form of a porthole is a must.
The amplifier measures 442 x 431 x129 mm and is available in either black or premium silver.
Prices and availability
The new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier will be available from specialist retailers soon. The recommended retail price is € 1.500,-.
Getting to the point
With the new Marantz MODEL 60n Network Integrated Amplifier, Masimo Consumer introduces an extremely versatile Marantz-branded stereo amplifier with an integrated streaming client. The fact that the product relies on the proven virtues of the traditional Japanese brand, such as the amplifier’s particularly musical tuning, the solid analogue and digital input features, and the Hi-res audio streaming based on HEOS Built-in, should make this product very interesting for a large number of HiFi enthusiasts as a ‘Just add speakers’ solution.
