Luxsin X9 – D/A converter and Headphone amplifier in the reference class

The new Luxsin X9 is a headphone amplifier with an integrated D/A converter from the same team of developers behind the Eversolo Audio brand. It is clear that this will be a solution that can be described as a reference.

Story Highlights
  • Luxsin Audio is a very young brand that is now presenting itself with a headphone amplifier with D/A converter that is supposed to be at reference level, the Luxsin X9.

It is a product group that is of particular interest in the desktop audio sector, attracting discerning users who place the highest value on impeccable sound quality but only want a compact audio system focussed on the essentials. We are talking about headphone amplifiers with an integrated D/A converter, which may even offer the option of being used as a preamplifier.

Such solutions form a central interface for desktop audio systems, guaranteeing the best possible quality through accurate signal conversion, for example for streaming, which can be used directly via headphones, but also via active loudspeaker systems. It is therefore not surprising that more and more companies are focussing on such solutions, such as the company behind the new Luxsin X9, Zidoo Technology Co. Ltd.

Luxsin Audio, a new brand from a well-known team of developers

Luxsin Audio is a completely new brand, but it is backed by a company that has already built up an impeccable reputation with another relatively new brand. The company in question is Zidoo Technology Co Ltd, which is probably best known for Eversolo Audio and its outstanding D/A converters, streaming devices and amplifiers.

With the new Luxsin Audio brand, the company now wants to intensify the desktop audio segment and is presenting the first headphone amplifier, the Luxsin X9, combining it with a D/A converter and also entrusting it with the task of a preamplifier.

Premiere – Luxsin X9

Although it is a separate brand, the development team is the same, so it will be interesting to see what Luxsin Audio brings to the market with the new Luxsin X9, especially as, as the manufacturer revealed, they are of course relying on tried and tested concepts, and many exciting features of the Eversolo Audio devices will also be found in the Luxsin Audio solutions.

It is particularly important that the Luxsin X9 is a solution that meets even the highest demands, not only relying on sophisticated concepts and the latest technologies, but also on high-quality components.

The basis of the new Luxsin X9 is therefore a D/A converter in line with the latest technologies, supporting data in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 768 kHz and DSD up to DSD512, as well as DSP-based signal processing, which offers many exciting possibilities.

DSP-based signal processing with enormous potential

Profiles with corresponding correction curves are to be available for a wide variety of headphones; the manufacturer speaks of no fewer than 2,500 headphone models. Continuous updates should ensure future-proof compatibility. Thanks to the integrated HP-EQ technology, the sound image is precisely tuned to the desired target curve and should therefore ensure a natural and detailed listening experience that fulfils almost every taste, as the manufacturer promises.

It is also possible that the powerful platform of the Luxsin X9 is used to automatically measure the impedance of a headphone as soon as it is plugged in and then operate the output stage at the optimum level.

Designed for maximum signal purity

Signal processing is handled by a converter from Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation, namely an AK4499EX DAC, which is supported by particularly precise master clocks from AccuSilicon. The result is a deep black background on which sound colours unfold as if on an endless stage. With an impressive THD+N value of -120 dB, the Luxsin X9 can be expected to deliver exceptional purity and clarity. According to the manufacturer, all processing steps, from digital signal processing and IV conversion through to the output stage, are carried out in differential circuits throughout.

The output stage also has a special feature. Dynamic Negative Feedback Technology, or DNF for short, is used here. A combination of OPA1612 and TPA6120A2, both from Texas Instruments, is used here to minimise harmonic and intermodulation distortion and thus ensure unadulterated, transparent reproduction.

The output stage of the Luxsin X9 uses R2R Volume Control, a high-precision resistor network switched by relays to control the volume.

An integrated crossfeed function provides a loudspeaker-like listening experience with natural spatiality and reduces listening fatigue – ideal for long sessions. The precisely adjustable sound stage also allows a finely tuned perception of depth and width.

This solution is certainly not lacking in power, with no less than 4,000 mW at 3 2Ω impedance available from the fully balanced headphone amplifier.

Intuitive operation thanks to a large display

The first photos, which show a generously dimensioned 4-inch colour LCD with VU meters, show that sufficient performance is also available for a neat presentation.

In terms of connections for source devices, the new Luxson X9 should offer everything you need, including HDMI and ARC. Although the Luxson X9 can be integrated into the network, this is solely for intuitive control and OTA updates (over-the-air updates). What is not offered, however, is a streaming option, which should be expressly emphasised.

Headphone connections include an unbalanced 6.3 stereo jack and a 4.4 mm Pentaconn and a 4-pin XLR for balanced signals.

Prices and availability

The new Luxsin X9 celebrated its premiere at the World of Headphones in Heidelberg. The German distributor audioNEXT GmbH managed to get hold of the very first model from the manufacturer, albeit still as a pre-production unit, so that visitors to the trade fair could already take a look at it. The final version will now be on display at High-end 2025 in Munich, but this solution can already be ordered now. The recommended retail price is listed at € 1.199,-. The first devices will probably reach buyers at the end of May 2025.

Getting to the point

Based on all the experience and expertise of the Eversolo Audio development team, the solutions of the new Luxsin Audio brand will be able to present themselves in the future, with the company Zidoo Technology Co. Ltd. ultimately being behind both. While the Eversolo Audio brand specifically develops D/A converters, streaming clients and amplifiers – in short, classic HiFi systems – Luxsin Audio will focus on desktop audio solutions. The first product of the new brand is the Luxsin X9, a D/A converter with headphone amplifier and preamplifier at reference level, but at a particularly attractive price, as the manufacturer Zidoo Technology Co. Ltd. promises.
