According to Beijing Infomedia Electronic Technology Co. Ltd, the new Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player opens a completely new chapter in the field of portable Hi-res audio players. The DAP not only offers outstanding quality, it is also equipped for the first time with LTTP, the new proprietary wireless high-definition audio transmission protocol.
- Beijing Infomedia Electronic Technology Co. Ltd. describes the latest solution from the Lotoo brand, the Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player, as a new reference in the DAP sector.
It may well be that the company Beijing Infomedia Electronic Technology Co. Ltd. is hardly known to any HiFi enthusiasts, but the Lotoo brand, behind which the aforementioned Chinese company stands, is. The Lotoo brand was previously considered something of an insider tip, but is increasingly attracting the interest of a broader customer base, as the company is working hard to make all the expertise it has gained over the years in the professional audio sector available for products in the consumer segment.
Such as a new DAP that Beijing Infomedia Electronic Technology Co. Ltd. is now announcing in the form of the Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player, which, according to the manufacturer, is a true reference system in its field, opening a new chapter in the field of portable Hi-res audio players in terms of sound quality and performance.
Based on many years of expertise
The new Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player is by no means the first DAP from the Lotoo brand, rather it is based on many years of expertise in the field of portable Hi-res players.
High-performance platform with three subsystems
At the heart of the new Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player is a high-performance platform, a so-called multi-processor architecture, consisting of a MIPS standalone wireless subsystem from Ingenic Semiconductor Co. Ltd, the Ingenic X1000, the ARM processor from NXP Semiconductors Freescale i.MX 6 as a standalone digital subsystem, and the standalone audio subsystem based on ADI Blackfin BF706 DSP from Analog Devices Inc.
Each of these three subsystems has its own power supply in order to guarantee the best possible separation of the important modules, as the manufacturer reveals, which also speaks of a particularly complex structure based on 8-layer HDI multi-stage PCB, which also contributes to the fact that no sound-damaging interference occurs between the different modules.
Sandwich Structure Circuit Design
The internal structure is also based on the best possible separation of the various components, as the analogue section is separated from the digital section by the battery.
The latest components from AKM
For the signal processing, the developers used the latest components from the specialist Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation, initially a combination consisting of an AKM AK4191EQ Delta Sigma Modulator plus two AK4499EX DACs with AKM Velvet Sound Technology and an AKM4137EQ 2 Channel Digital Sample Rate Converter. The output stage is equipped with four BUF634A OP amps from Texas Instruments.
The Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player is capable of processing signals in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 768 kHz as well as DSD up to DSD512. As already mentioned, the user can opt for upsampling, whereby DSD512 is also offered in addition to 32 bit and 768 kHz.
There is also a parametric equaliser with eight presets (Classic, Techno, Dance, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Headphone, Full Bass) and a DSP with five presets (Brighter, Dental, Far field, Sweet, Near field), which can also be used to adapt the playback to the respective music material or personal taste.
Lotoo OS 1.6 as operating system
The operating system of the new Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player is Lotoo OS 1.6 and, of course, a generously dimensioned 4-inch IP5 Retina LCD touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels is the central element for convenient operation, alongside a number of buttons and a rotary encoder.
SD card, WiFi, USB, Bluetooth and LTTP
For audio data, the new Lotoo brand DAP has an SD card slot that supports memory cards with a capacity of up to 2 TByte. The Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player has WiFi for integration into the network and can even be used as a dlna-certified UPnP streaming client. It is designed with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface in the form of a USB-C port, which can be used both as a USB storage device and as an external D/A converter.
There is also no lack of Bluetooth, with support for the LDAC codec in addition to SBC and AAC.
Another particularly exciting feature is that the new Lotoo PAW GT2 comes with LTTP, the proprietary wireless high-definition audio transmission protocol developed by Beijing Infomedia Electronic Technology Co. Ltd., also known as the Lotoo Teletransport Protocol, which is said to be able to transmit signals at a bit rate of 1.5 Mbps at up to 24 bit and 96 kHz, even loss-free up to 24 bit and 48 kHz and with integrated error correction.
Unbalanced and balanced – powerful output stage
Analogue signals are output on the new Lotoo PAW GT2 either via a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack or a 4,4 mm PENTACONN, and are therefore available both unbalanced and balanced. It is interesting to note that both outputs can be used either as a line out or as a headphone connection.
If the unbalanced 3,5 mm stereo mini jack is used for headphones, 460 mW per channel is available at 32 ohms and 156 mW per channel at 100 ohms.
The 4.4 mm PENTACONN provides an impressive 1.000 mW per channel for headphones with an impedance of 32 ohms and a further two times 620 mW at 100 ohms, 210 mW per channel at 300 ohms and 104 mW per channel at 600 ohms.
Powerful battery
The battery integrated in the new Lotoo PAW GT2 is designed as a 3,7 V 8.300 mAh lithium polymer battery and should deliver a playing time of up to ten hours, as the manufacturer promises. Charging is, of course, via the aforementioned USB-C port on the DAP.
Solid, elegant housing
The housing of the new Lotoo PAW GT2 is made of aluminium, with the manufacturer itself referring to an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy body that is CNC-machined and anodised in black.
With dimensions of 132,8 mm in height, 70,8 mm in width and 32,4 mm in depth, this new DAP from the Lotoo brand weighs in at 388 g.
Prices and availability
Unfortunately, we do not yet know when and at what price the new Lotoo PAW GT2 Reference Portable Music Player will be available. Getting to the point, we will provide this information as soon as possible.
