- The Klipsch Detroit is now the third model in Klipsch's Bluetooth speaker range, the Klipsch Music City Series.
Last year, the US speaker specialist Klipsch announced the so-called Klipsch Music City Series, a product line of portable Bluetooth speakers that were to be characterised by flexibility in handling as well as impressive performance in the most compact dimensions possible. The model range comprised three products, namely the Klipsch Austin, Klipsch Nashville and Klipsch Detroit solutions.
While the Klipsch Austin and Klipsch Nashville models are already available from specialist retailers, the Klipsch Detroit is the latest model in the Klipsch Music City Series, and the most powerful in the Klipsch range to date.
Mobile two-way system for powerful sound
Even though the new Klipsch Detroit is the largest Bluetooth speaker in the Klipsch Music City Series, it is still a comparatively compact model that can easily be taken anywhere. It measures 107 x 334 x 119 mm and weighs in at 2,46 kg.
Nevertheless, the design ensures a rich sound that has been taken directly from classic HiFi speaker systems. The new Klipsch Detroit is designed as a two-way system, with the developers combining two 7,6 cm bass-midrange drivers with two 25 mm tweeters, which are powered by Class D amplifier modules with an output of twice 15 watts. Four additional passive diaphragms, each 7,6 cm in diameter, and a bass reflex system are intended to guarantee a rich bass, with the frequency range extending down to 55 Hz and up to 20 kHz, according to the manufacturer.
Bluetooth 5.3 as the primary source
Smartphones and tablets will probably be the primary source for the new Klipsch Detroit, using a Bluetooth module that complies with the Bluetooth 5.3 standard. Simple, convenient control is ensured by the Klipsch Connect app, which the manufacturer provides for Apple iOS and Google Android and also includes an equaliser to adjust the sound to your own preferences.
This app can also be used to connect several systems from the Klipsch Music City Series in order to achieve particularly rich sound from up to ten individual systems for a party, for example, using the so-called Klipsch Broadcast Mode.
Ideally equipped for all weather conditions
The Klipsch Detroit is IP67-certified, meaning it can be used outdoors in any weather conditions without any problems, resisting not only wind and weather, but also dust and even sand. Should a mishap occur at the pool, it can even withstand a dive to a depth of up to one metre for up to 30 minutes.
The robust construction is primarily ensured by a rubberised housing, which also guarantees a secure footing on any surface. An optional flexible strap can be fitted for convenient transport.
It should also be mentioned that the integrated lithium-ion battery should offer a playing time of up to 20 hours, as the manufacturer expressly promises. It can be recharged within two hours via USB-C. When travelling, the portable speaker can also be used as a power bank via this USB-C port to charge a smartphone, for example.
