- The "e" in the name stands for "evolved", so the new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e is to be understood as a further development of the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2.
Masimo Consumer now presents the new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e, a true wireless over-ear headphone with active noise cancellation from the Bowers & Wilkins brand, which is clearly designed as the successor to the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2. The new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e is the latest generation of the highly successful entry-level wireless headphones, the company points out.
The “e” stands for “evolved”, indicating that the new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e draws inspiration and insight from the flagship Bowers & Wilkins Px8, as Masimo Consumer points out. In addition, new tuning is said to ensure that these new headphones offer the best performance in their class.
Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e with 24-bit DSP
Masimo Consumer cites the DSP-based signal processing of the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e as a particularly significant new feature. This is done at 24 bits and is said to bring a significant improvement in sound quality over the previous model. This is one feature where the new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e is said to benefit directly from technology from the flagship Bowers & Wilkins Px8.
The signal processing is of course used first and foremost for the integrated active noise cancellation, for which the manufacturer once again promises a particularly effective mode of operation for unclouded listening pleasure in any environment.
Of course, a so-called Ambient Aware Mode is also available, so that you are not completely disconnected from the environment if desired. This mode is particularly important when moving in public spaces in order to be safe on the road.
The active noise cancellation can rely on four microphones, and two additional microphones in the new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e are used to ensure impeccable voice quality for telephone calls and video calls, and can of course also be used for voice control via smartphones.
Proven drivers, new Bluetooth codecs
The new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e uses the same proven 40mm drivers as its predecessor, with bio-cellulose diaphragms that are said to deliver a detailed, dynamic performance.
The new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e is able to transmit signals via Bluetooth using a Bluetooth 5.2 module from the specialist Qualcomm Inc. with the codecs SBC, AAC, but also aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive. An AUX input in the form of a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack is also available as an alternative, and the new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e can even be connected to a notebook via USB-C, for example. The integrated battery is also charged via USB-C, which should be mentioned for the sake of completeness, as well as the fact that the corresponding cables are part of the scope of delivery.
Of course, it should not go unmentioned that the Bowers & Wilkins Music App is available for Apple iOS as well as Google Android. With it, you can make all the settings for the headphones and adjust them to your personal preferences, for example with an equaliser. The app also offers direct music streaming from compatible platforms such as Deezer, Qobuz, TIDAL and TuneIn. The Bowers & Wilkins Music App can also be used with other Bowers & Wilkins products such as the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin, providing a seamless user experience when switching between headphones and wireless speakers, as the manufacturer explicitly points out.
Up to 30 hours
The manufacturer states a playing time of 30 hours with active noise cancellation and signal transmission via Bluetooth. A quick-charge function is said to allow up to seven hours of music enjoyment after only 15 minutes.
Prices and availability
The new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e will be available in stores within the next few days, according to Masimo Consumer. The recommended retail price is € 429,-. The models available are Anthracite Black, Cloud Grey, Ocean Blue and Forest Green.
Getting to the point
The new Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e borrows from the flagship Bowers & Wilkins Px8, says Masimo Consumer about the latest True Wireless over-ear headphones with active noise cancellation. It is interesting that this new generation is only marked with an “e” in the name, which stands for “evolved” and is intended to express that here, first and foremost, a comprehensively revised digital signal processing is relied on for an even better sound quality.
