Story Highlights
  • Audio-Technica Ltd. now wants to attract attention with a special cartridge system, namely the new Audio-Technica AT-ART1000x Direct Power Stereo MC Cartridge.

The Japanese company Audio-Technica Ltd. has been a recognised specialist for fine cartridge systems for years and can boast many a fine solution in this field. With the newly announced Audio-Technica AT-ART1000x Direct Power Stereo MC Cartridge, the company is once again aiming to set new standards and is talking about a solution that can be regarded as a new standard in the outstanding reproduction of vinyl records.

How could it be otherwise, the new Audio-Technica AT-ART1000x Direct Power Stereo MC Cartridge is clearly at the top of the Audio-Technica product portfolio and is now set to take on the role of the new flagship.

Designed for audiophile vinyl lovers

The company claims that this new cartridge system continues the philosophy and design of the Audio-Technica AT-ART1000, but takes quality to a whole new level with a refined direct drive system for improved efficiency and bass response.

Designed and manufactured in Japan using state-of-the-art materials and design elements, the new Audio-Technica AT-ART1000x Direct Power Stereo MC Cartridge offers audiophiles the basis for the ultimate listening experience.

Direct Power System for dynamic reproduction down to the lowest frequencies

As the name suggests, the Direct Power System, which was already used in the Audio-Technica AT-ART1000, has been further refined for the latest generation of this MC cartridge system.

“By placing the voice coils, which convert the movement of the stylus and cantilever into electrical signals, directly on the stylus, the effects of the length and material type of the cantilever are minimised. This design and the additional refinements we have made to the AT-ART1000X achieve a new level of sonic realism with remarkable resolution, tonal and spatial accuracy and dynamic impact.”

Yosuke Koizumi, cartridge engineer at Audio-Technica Ltd.

The latest generation is said to be characterised by the fact that the direct power system, in which the coils are placed on the cartridge stylus to capture even the finest sonic details, has now been supplemented by rectangular coils with a non-magnetic core to further increase efficiency and thus significantly expand the low-frequency range.

Each non-magnetic coil core consists of PCOCC wire (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) with a diameter of 20 μm, which, according to the manufacturer, is wound exactly eight times by hand by experts in Japan to achieve the newly developed rectangular shape.

The coils, in turn, are enclosed in a film that is just 25 μm thick and integrated into the magnetic circuit, which at 0,5 mm can almost be described as tiny.

Maximum precision right up to the high frequency range

Audio-Technica also promises particularly accurate reproduction in the high-frequency range for the new Audio-Technica AT-ART1000x, relying on a so-called line stylus. The stylus is embedded in a boron needle carrier with a diameter of 0,26 mm and is designed to guarantee information from the record groove with the highest precision right up to the high frequency range with minimal distortion.

Key technical data

The new Audio-Technica AT-ART1000x is said to be able to reproduce a frequency between 15 Hz and 30 kHz and, according to the data sheet, has an output voltage of 0,22 mV with an impedance of 3,5 ohms. With dimensions of 17,3 x 17 x 25,5 mm, the pickup system weighs 11 g.
