Lake People electronic GmbH has been a recognised expert in headphone amplifiers for many years. Under its own name, the company develops and manufactures products that specifically address the pro audio segment, while the Violectric brand focusses on the premium HiFi sector. In both cases, however, the solutions are based on decades of experience and sophisticated technology, so that even the highest quality requirements can be met.
Of course, this should also apply to the latest solution from the Violectric brand, which Lake People electronic GmbH is now presenting with the new Violectric HPA V101. The proven circuit technology of chief developer Fried Reim should ensure that the new Violectric HPA V101 allows the most affordable entry into the world of Violectric, but with outstanding sound quality. We are talking about a solution in a small format, but with great sound.
Best sound with one or two headphones
A very special feature of the new Violectric HPA V101 is that two headphones can be connected here, although this alone is of course by no means a unique selling point. However, the manufacturer emphasises that special care has been taken to ensure that optimum results are achieved even when both headphone connections are actually used simultaneously.
To achieve this, the company relies on a discrete power amplifier that offers extremely low noise and a high damping factor, even at a high output voltage. It is also emphasised that the new Violectric HPA V101 works with a comparatively high operating voltage, namely 60 V, so that it can effortlessly operate both high-impedance and low-impedance headphones with low efficiency and elicit the best possible results from them.
Thanks to a seven-stage pre-gain adjustment, it is always possible to determine the optimum operating point for a wide range of headphones and thus optimise the volume control range.
Of course, the power supply is also of particular importance here, as the promised power must always be available. The new Violectric HPA V101 therefore relies on a deliberately oversized power supply based on a toroidal transformer.
Flexible use
At the rear, the new Violectric HPA V101 has both unbalanced and balanced inputs in addition to the power connection, one as a pair of RCA sockets and the other as XLR, with the selection being made via a small button directly next to the connections.
The front features a main switch with status LED, the volume control, behind which a high-quality Alps RK 27 potentiometer is concealed, as well as the connections for the headphones, designed as a 3,5 mm stereo mini jack and 6,3 mm stereo jack.
Neutral performance with a touch of warmth
Interestingly, the manufacturer promises music lovers maximum dynamics and transparency with a hint of warmth in the sound. They also claim that the new headphone amplifier boasts the best values in the measurement laboratory. The frequency response is completely linear from 5 Hz to 60 kHz and the circuit offers an enormous dynamic range of 129 dB.
