Velodyne SubContractor Series – Uncompromising solutions for custom installation

Exactly one year ago, Velodyne Acoustics GmbH presented the current generation of the Velodyne SubContractor Series for the first time at ISE 2023 in Barcelona, a product line that is specifically aimed at providers in the custom installation sector, enabling them to realise installations for their customers based on the solutions in this product line. At the heart of the Velodyne SubContractor Series are the Velodyne SC IW-600 X and Velodyne SC IW-800 X in-wall subwoofers.

The prototypes Velodyne SC-750 and Velodyne SC-1500 were presented at ISE 2023. Now, at ISE 2024, Velodyne Acoustics GmbH can present the final versions of these two system power amplifiers designed specifically to drive the in-wall subwoofers of the Velodyne SubContractor Series.

Two in-wall subwoofers for discreet installation in the living environment

The two in-wall subwoofers of the Velodyne SubContractor Series, the Velodyne SC IW-600 X and Velodyne SC IW-800 X models, are intended to guarantee precise, extremely powerful and deep-reaching reproduction in combination with the corresponding system power amplifiers, whereby these systems can be used both in the designated home cinema and in the living room, as the manufacturer explains. It is even the declared aim to enable almost invisible installations with products from this series, allowing home cinema to be integrated directly into any living environment, even at a high quality level.

The Velodyne SC IW-600 X and Velodyne SC IW-800 X models are equipped with two 6.5-inch and 8-inch drivers respectively, whereby, according to the company, they rely on the company’s proven passive cone technology with particularly lightweight, yet immensely rigid and therefore powerful drivers fitted with carbon fibre cones.

For particularly precise reproduction, the developers rely on the proven closed construction of the solidly manufactured MDF enclosures, which offer a revised front design compared to their predecessors with driver covers held in position magnetically.

Powerful system amplifiers in Class D

The associated Velodyne SC-750 and Velodyne SC-1500 amplifiers are designed to offer sufficient power with low effective operation thanks to Class D power amplifiers, as well as providing a particularly precise basis for the subwoofers.

It goes without saying that the new models have an anti-clipping and overheating circuit to prevent distortion caused by amplifier clipping.

Of course, automatic room correction based on DSP-based signal processing is also available here, with the Velodyne Auto EQ app for Apple iOS and Google Android making it particularly easy to use.

In terms of connections, the amplifiers not only offer high-quality RCA connections, but also XLR connections.

Prices and availability

The Velodyne SubContractor Series solutions are now all available from specialist retailers, including the built-in subwoofers and the matching system amplifiers. The two subwoofers Velodyne SC IW-600 X and Velodyne SC IW-800 X cost € 1.099,- and € 1.299,- respectively. The Velodyne SC-750 and Velodyne SC-1500 system amplifiers are priced at € 1.799,- and € 2.199,- respectively.

The current generation of the Velodyne SubContractor Series, which Velodyne Acoustics GmbH first announced last year at ISE 2023 and will now be able to present in its final version at ISE 2024, is now fully available.
