Velodyne Deep Blue Series – Four new subwoofers

Velodyne Deep Blue Series, this new product line from Velodyne Acoustics Inc. is supposed to offer an extremely dynamic and at the same time precise performance. Four models are available here, namely Velodyne Deep Blue DB-8, Velodyne Deep Blue DB-10, Velodyne Deep Blue DB-12, as well as Velodyne Deep Blue DB-15.

Until recently, the future of Velodyne Acoustics Inc. and with it a proven specialist for subwoofers was uncertain. But with the takeover of the company by the former German distributor Audio Reference GmbH, the foundation was laid for expecting outstanding subwoofer systems in the future.

This is the case with the latest product line, the Velodyne Deep Blue Series.

Velodyne Deep Blue Series – Completely Newly Developed

The new Velodyne Deep Blue Series is a product line that has been newly developed and, according to the manufacturer, is supposed to distinguish itself with outstanding dynamics and precision. Four new models are launched, namely the solutions Velodyne Deep Blue DB-8, Velodyne Deep Blue DB-10, Velodyne Deep Blue DB-12, as well as Velodyne Deep Blue DB-15.

Velodyne Acoustics Signature

The new connection between Velodyne Acoustics Inc. and Audio Reference GmbH made it possible that the new models of the Velodyne Deep Blue Series were designed by international experts from the USA and Germany, says the company in the corresponding press release. Of course, according to the manufacturer, the solutions of the new Velodyne Deep Blue Series also feature the Velodyne Acoustics Signature, for which the products have always been appreciated by users.

It is also expressly pointed out that with the new Velodyne Deep Blue Series, solutions have been developed that are equally suitable for breathtaking home cinema and high-quality stereo reproduction.

For Home Cinema and Stereo

The name of the new product line is symbolic for the performance of the new subwoofers. The connection to the mighty forces of the oceans is supposed to be reflected in the subwoofers as well as the deep and thrilling performance.

As the product name of the four models already clearly conveys, they rely on drivers with eight, ten, twelve and 15 inches in diameter, whereby the developers rely on a so-called front-firing subwoofer configuration.

Drivers with eight, ten, twelve and 15 inches

According to the manufacturer, these drivers are all designed to make optimal use of the enormous power and to guarantee distortion-free, accurate reproduction at all times. They are PP High Excustion drivers with a four-layer, vented voice coil.

They are driven by a Class D amplifier module optimised by Velodyne Acoustics Inc., which in the largest of the four new models delivers an impressive 1,000 watts, whereby, for the sake of completeness, this is the peak power.

Of course, such power reserves require an immensely solid cabinet, especially since the subwoofers are supposed to offer maximum power and precision from a comparatively compact design.

Solid MDF cabinet

The developers used a cabinet with a wall thickness of 2.5 cm, the baffles even have a wall thickness of 5 cm. This should prevent vibrations from damaging the sound, and additional acoustic measures minimise resonances.

To emphasise it explicitly, the models of the new Velodyne Deep Blue Series are designed as a closed construction, any problems with a bass reflex system are to be avoided completely.

It goes without saying that the new models of the Velodyne Deep Blue Series have all relevant connection options in order to be able to be implemented flexibly in the most diverse application scenarios. Likewise, all important parameters are available to make individual adjustments. Thanks to the integrated variable crossover and the connections for line level and speaker level plus LFE input for processors, no wishes remain unfulfilled. Continuous phase adjustment ensures precise timing and fine tuning to the main speakers.

According to Audio Reference GmbH, the new models of the Velodyne Deep Blue Series are expected to be available from specialist dealers from mid-February 2021. The Velodyne Deep Blue DB-8 will start at a recommended retail price of € 790, followed by the Velodyne Deep Blue DB-10 at € 990. The Velodyne Deep Blue DB-12 and Velodyne Deep Blue DB-15 models will be available at € 1,190 and € 1,490 respectively.
