With the new Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition, Unison Research delivers a particularly elegant version of one of the company's most successful products, a stereo integrated amplifier, which is now presented as a special model with a gun-metal finish and refined features.
- The new Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition is characterised by improved technical details and thus a further refined sound quality, as well as a particularly elegant design.
The Italian HiFi manufacturer Unison Research describes the new Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition as a stereo integrated amplifier that can fulfil the needs of even the most demanding audiophile music lovers and HiFi enthusiasts. As the name suggests, this is a special model in a product line with which the Italians are presenting their most successful products in a special, revised version, the Unison Research Black Edition.
In addition to the Unison Research Triode 25, this product line also includes the Unison Research Simply Italy and Unison Research S6 models, which are now available as the Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition, Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition and Unison Research S6 Black Edition.
Elegant look with gun metal finish
All models of the so-called Unison Research Black Edition are united by their very exquisite appearance in a discreet black, whereby the manufacturer itself speaks of a gun-metal finish.
The Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition stereo integrated amplifier therefore features a high-gloss lacquered front in black and a housing with a dark anodised metal surface. Another detail worth mentioning is that the designers have also opted for a new graphic design with modified typography for the Unison Research Black Edition models, which gives the amplifier a very modern touch.
For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned at this point that the Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition weighs an impressive 20 kg with dimensions of 30 x 45 x 20 cm.
Improved sound quality
With the new Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition, the achievable sound quality has been further improved, specifically the sonic strengths have been worked out even more precisely and further developed, as the manufacturer states.
To this end, the circuitry has been reworked and further optimised both directly in the signal path and in the power supply, and the aim is to increase performance and minimise sound-damaging distortion at the same time.
According to the manufacturer’s promise, the construction of the ground paths and the channel separation have been treated with the utmost care to ensure optimum performance. Wherever possible, the audio signal is routed in shielded, high-quality cables.
The amplifier section has an adjustable bias voltage and the feedback can be set in two positions. For the input selector switch, high-quality micro-relays and return GND technology are used, as emphasised by Unison Research.
Triode or pentode
The Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition is designed so that the user can choose between a triode or pentode mode. The developers have used the same circuit as in the reference solutions from Unison Research. Built in Class AB, the user can therefore choose between an ultra-linear mode or more power. An output of 30 watts is available in triode mode, while 50 watts are offered in pentode mode.
Two ECC83 Gold Lion and one ECC82 Gold Lion are used in the preamplifier section, while four KT77 Gold Lion tubes in push-pull configuration are used in the power amplifier.
Analogue and digital
The Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition not only has three analogue inputs, it also offers an integrated D/A converter in the form of the Unison Research DAC3. This is able to process signals in Linear PCM with up to 24 bits and 192 kHz via its optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface, and the full potential is available via USB-B to connect a PC or Mac and process signals in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 384 kHz as well as DSD up to DSD256.
It should also be emphasised that the new Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition features an unfiltered subwoofer output to provide an appropriate solution for amplification in the lowest frequency range.
