- The new Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition is characterised by significantly improved technical details for an even finer sound quality and a gun metal finish.
With the so-called Unison Research Black Edition, the Italian HiFi manufacturer Unison Research has undertaken a very special project. The aim was to further refine and improve the company’s most successful products for a series of special models, and the Unison Research Black Edition was born.
This comprises three models, namely the Unison Research S6, Unison Research Triode 25 and Unison Research Simply Italy solutions. These are now available as Unison Research S6 Black Edition, Unison Research Triode 25 Black Edition and Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition.
Stereo integrated amplifier based on tube technology
Once again, the developers at Italian HiFi manufacturer Unison Research have opted for a stereo integrated amplifier that relies on Class A ultra-linear amplification based on tube technology for the Unison Research Simply Italy.
Of course, this also applies to the special Unison Research Black Edition model and thus the Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition. Here, the circuitry has even been further refined, as the manufacturer emphasises, in order to be able to guarantee more sound quality.
The circuitry has been reworked both directly in the signal path and in the power supply to achieve the promised improvements. To achieve this, the company has drawn on its experience in developing the Italian reference models, and even some of the technologies used in this premium class have found their way into the new Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition.
For example, electronic polarisation is intended to ensure a stable operating point for the power tube throughout its entire service life and eliminate the need for an auto-bias function.
This technology makes it possible to get the best possible performance out of the KT77 Gold Lion used here as power tubes in the power amplifier and to deliver optimum sound quality.
In addition to the aforementioned KT77 Gold Lion, Unison Research also uses two EXX82 Gold Lion signal tubes, which should be mentioned here for the sake of completeness.
Unison Research has also revised the output transformer, which now offers a special technology with five winding sections to further improve the sound quality of the KT77 Gold Lion.
The manufacturer also states that great care has been taken in the construction of the ground paths and channel separation to ensure optimum performance. Wherever possible, the audio signal is routed in shielded, high-quality cables.
Just like the standard device, the new Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition is of course not a power giant, but is content with an almost modest 10 watts of power per channel.
Not designed for analogue sources alone
Anyone who thinks that a stereo integrated amplifier in the class of the Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition relies solely on analogue inputs is mistaken. In addition to three analogue inputs in the form of pairs of RCA sockets, the Unison Research DAC3 digital module is also available here, which, with two S/PDIF interfaces – one optical and one coaxial S/PDIF – also offers a USB-B port so that a PC or Mac can be connected directly as a source and signals in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 384 kHz as well as DSD up to and including DSD256 can be processed.
It should not go unmentioned that a subwoofer out can also be used to add support in the lowest frequency range, which can be particularly exciting in combination with more compact speaker systems in this performance class of the amplifier.
Gun metal finish
Like all Unison Research Black Edion solutions, the new Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition also has a gun-metal finish with a high-gloss black lacquered front and an aluminium housing with a dark anodised metal surface. Another interesting detail is the new graphic design with modified typography.
With dimensions of 26 x 40 x 18 cm, this solution weighs no less than 15 kg, as the data sheet for the new Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition reveals.
Prices and availability
The new Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition will soon be available from specialist retailers, as the manufacturer reveals. The manufacturer states a recommended retail price of € 3.349,- for the stereo integrated amplifier with tube technology.
