Triangle BOREA Connect Series – Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect
Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect are the two latest active loudspeaker systems that Triangle Electroacoustique has now developed as the new Triangle BOREA Connect Series based on the Triangle BOREA Series systems designed as passive solutions.
- The new models in the Triangle BOREA Connect Series, Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect, feature an integrated phono preamp, Line In, S/PDIF and Bluetooth as well as HDMI and USB ports.
The so-called Triangle BOREA Series is an extremely important product line for the French loudspeaker manufacturer Triangle Electroacoustique, as it is designed for the widest possible target group and includes a wide variety of loudspeaker systems for the realisation of fine but attractively priced hi-fi or home cinema systems. Interestingly, this product line was also chosen as the basis for active loudspeaker systems designed as desktop audio solutions, such as the Triangle BOREA BR02 BT and Triangle BOREA BR03 BT models.
Now two more active speaker systems based on the Triangle BOREA Series are following, whereby the focus is now on wireless speakers, which, in addition to various analogue and digital interfaces, above all feature HDMI, namely the Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect systems. They form the Triangle BOREA Connect Series.
Triangle BOREA Connect Series – Versatile active two-way bass reflex systems
Once again, the Triangle BOREA Series bookshelf loudspeaker systems, which are already designed as two-way bass reflex systems in the passive version, are relied upon, namely the Triangle BOREA BR02 and Triangle BOREA BR03 models.
The developers’ intention with the new Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect models is therefore to offer solutions that can be integrated into any living environment in as many ways as possible and can function as an extremely versatile desktop audio solution.
The Triangle BOREA BR02 BT and Triangle BOREA BR03 BT refined
Strictly speaking, the two new models Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect can essentially be described as refined models of the Triangle BOREA BR02 BT and Triangle BOREA BR03 BT, as they are both active speaker systems that primarily use Bluetooth as the central connection to the outside world, but also offer a variety of analogue and digital interfaces.
And this is where the two new Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect systems differ significantly from the Triangle BOREA BR02 BT and Triangle BOREA BR03 BT solutions offered to date.
From Bluetooth to a phono preamp and HDMI
When it comes to the “wireless” connection with source devices, Bluetooth 5.0 is available, whereby aptX and even aptX LL and aptX HD are available in addition to the lossy codecs SBC and AAC, thus offering signal transmission with up to 24 bit and 48 kHz.
A PC or Mac can be connected directly as a source via a USB-B port, whereby the best quality is achieved. Audio data in Linear PCM format is processed with up to 32 bit and 384 kHz as well as DSD up to and including DSD256 via the ESS ES9018K2M converter from ESS Technology Inc. It should also be mentioned that there is a coaxial and optical S/PDIF interface, but the HDMI port is particularly exciting for many, as it allows a TV set to be directly integrated via the ARC (Audio Return Channel), including centralised control using HMDI CEC. The Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect speakers make a soundbar obsolete, as they can provide a fine sound when watching TV.
For analogue sources, the integrated phono preamplifier stands out first and foremost, of course, even if this is reserved exclusively for drives equipped with MM cartridge systems. This input in the form of a pair of RCA sockets can also be configured as Line In, and a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack is also available as an alternative input.
To integrate an external subwoofer, a corresponding connection is of course available.
Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect
The Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect uses a two-way bass reflex system consisting of a 1-inch soft dome tweeter in combination with a 5-inch woofer with cellulose cone and a rear-firing bass reflex system.
These are driven by a Class D amplifier module with an output of twice 50 watts and a frequency range between 56 Hz and 22 kHz can be reproduced.
With dimensions of 310 mm in height, 176 mm in width and 274 mm in depth, this speaker system weighs 11.2 kg.
Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect
The new Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect is a little more powerful, as the 1-inch soft dome tweeter and the 6-inch woofer with cellulose cone are driven by Class D amplifier modules with two 60-watt outputs. According to the data sheet, this covers a frequency range between 47 Hz and 22 kHz.
The speaker system measures 206 x 360 x 314 mm and weighs 14.2 kg, as the data sheet reveals.
Prices and availability
The new models in the Triangle BOREA Connect Series should be available from specialist retailers within the next few days, as the manufacturer states. Triangle Electroacoustique has announced a recommended retail price of € 549,- for the Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect model and € 649,- for the Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect.
Both solutions are available in different design variants, namely Black Ash, Light Oak, Light Oak Blue, Oak Green, Cream and Oak Sand.
The scope of delivery includes a matching remote control, which fortunately relies on radio rather than infrared.
Getting to the point
Back in May 2022, Triangle Electroacoustique presented the Triangle BOREA BR02 BT and Triangle BOREA BR03 BT solutions, two active speaker systems from the Triangle BOREA Series, with a focus on digital and analogue interfaces in addition to Bluetooth for maximum flexibility of use. The refined models of the new Triangle BOREA Connect Series are now being presented in the form of the Triangle BOREA BR02 Connect and Triangle BOREA BR03 Connect systems. In addition to refined converters, the HDMI ports, which guarantee direct integration of TV sets, stand out in particular. There are now also USB ports that allow connection to PCs and Macs.
