System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo - Subwoofer with WiSA Technology

They have reinvented the way a subwoofer is used, according to Danish company System Audio A/S, which is now introducing the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo, a subwoofer for the System Audio SA Silverback Series based on WiSA technology.

Story Highlights
  • System Audio A/S now presents a subwoofer from the System Audio SA Silverback Series with the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo.

System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo, with this the Danish loudspeaker specialist System Audio A/S presents for the first time a subwoofer in the so-called System Audio SA Silverback Series. This product series is particularly exciting because System Audio A/S describes it as the future in the field of hi-fi as well as home cinema. These are active loudspeaker systems that are primarily controlled by radio, so apart from the power supply, of course, they do not need any cables. Here, System Audio A/S relies on the so-called WiSA technology and thus allows not only “wireless” stereo configurations, but also “wireless” multi-channel solutions, i.e. home cinema.

With the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo, even the last component is freed from cables, because the System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo also relies primarily on WiSA technology for signal transmission.

System Audio SA Silverback Series – Wireless for Stereo and Home Cinema

As already described, the entire System Audio SA Silverback Series focuses on “wireless” signal transmission, relying on WiSA technology. WiSA technology is the only wireless transmission on the market that has been developed from the very beginning as an industry standard solely for audio, namely for the almost latency-free transmission of high-resolution audio data in stereo and multi-channel.

Apart from the fact that many consumer electronics systems, especially TV sets from selected manufacturers, already rely on WiSA technology, System Audio A/S itself offers the System Audio Stereo Hub and the System Audio Surround Hub as central interfaces for the realisation of a stereo as well as surround solution based on the speaker systems of the System Audio SA Silverback Series.

The System Audio Stereo Hub and the System Audio Surround Hub are designed as comparatively inconspicuous compact solutions, and each has all relevant interfaces for different sources, and are also equipped for streaming based on different platforms. However, they are primarily responsible for signal transmission to the Wireless Active Speakers of the System Audio SA Silverback Series, such as the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo. In any case, the central control is done via the System Audio SA Cockpit App.

System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo – Easy integration into the living room

The new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo is designed to be used as a wireless subwoofer with other System Audio SA Silverback Series solutions, for example with two speakers in stereo mode, or with up to eight speakers in home cinema.

A special feature of the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo is that it is deliberately designed in such a way that it can easily be placed in corners and directly on the wall, thus taking up very little space. The manufacturer even says that the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo could be installed in a piece of furniture made by clic as, for example, such is the compactness of this solution with dimensions of 42 x 31 x 20.5 cm.

Of course, the company also offers a matching wall-mounting device for the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo, which increases the depth by only 2 cm.

DSP-based signal processing and Class D amplifier

The System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo relies on DSP-based signal processing, which is where the aforementioned System Audio SA Cockpit app comes into play, which is designed both for configuring the subwoofer and for individual tuning.

The app has a room correction function that is designed for all solutions of the System Audio SA Silverback Series, so it can also be used for the new subwoofer of the product line.

The amplifiers are Class D modules with an output of 150 watts each, whereby the System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo uses two amplifiers to drive the woofer. The diaphragm has a long stroke and the motor system of the woofer uses two voice coils to control the unit and give the sound additional pressure, as the manufacturer states, thus aiming to reproduce a frequency range between 17 and 250 Hz.

With the so-called RAM TWEAKS, which System Audio A/S offers for all models of the System Audio SA Silverback Series and thus also for the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo, the user can adjust the character of the subwoofer according to his own needs, for example, to adjust the subwoofer for a particularly loud and concise, or for an extra deep performance.

System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo and System Audio SA Silverback Sub Duo

What we haven’t revealed yet is that the System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo has not two, but four Class D amplifier modules, so that it can be expanded directly with another passive subwoofer if desired.

What could be better than a good subwoofer, is the rhetorical question posed by System Audio A/S, who give the corresponding answer with two. For this purpose, they have developed the System Audio SA Silverback Sub Duo, which is almost identical to the System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo, but is designed to be purely passive. It is driven by the Solo, but the connection is made by cable.

The System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo itself is of course controlled wirelessly via WiSA, but an XLR connection is also available as an option.

Prices and availability

The new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo is expected to hit the market in summer 2023, according to the manufacturer, who will offer this new subwoofer in either satin black or satin white. The recommended retail price is listed at € 1.645,-. If you decide to add the optional System Audio SA Silverback Sub Duo, you have to calculate a recommended retail price of € 875,-.

Getting to the point

With the new System Audio SA Silverback Sub Solo, the subwoofer has been reinvented, as System Audio A/S itself praises this new solution of the System Audio SA Silverback Series. Admittedly, this seems a bit exaggerated, but in fact this new subwoofer expands the exciting concept of the System Audio SA Silverback Series. This subwoofer is not only a must-have for home cinema, but is also fun to use with classic stereo, especially since the integration is so simple and easy in this case. The fact that with the System Audio SA Silverback Sub Duo you can easily make two subwoofers out of one also speaks for this concept of the Danes.
