Last year, Bauer Studios GmbH announced that selected titles from the Studio Concert Series would be available for download in a special version optimized for headphones as so-called binaural stereo mixes. These are now available at HIGHRESAUDIO.

The German company Bauer Studios GmbH has been pursuing an outstanding strategy for years. Within the framework of the so-called Studio Concert Series, artists from various genres are invited to perform in the studios and record them under ideal conditions. In this way, the live character of the performance is preserved, but technically optimal results can also be guaranteed.

Over the years, unique recordings have been made, which are offered in the form of CDs and records.

As sempre-audio.at reported in the middle of last year, Bauer Studios GmbH decided to offer selected recordings as downloads in the future, whereby they decided to offer a very special version. Since it is considered that downloads are often enjoyed via personal audio devices, optimal sound experiences should be guaranteed. Therefore, binaural stereo mixes were chosen and called Studio Concert for Headphones.

Binaural stereophony means that level, time and frequency differences, which in human hearing are responsible for the perception of the direction of a sound source and which are determined by the head shape and position of the eardrums, are taken into account during recording and mixing. In this way, a stereo mix can be achieved that is much more precise in locating the sound events and the spatiality of the recording, especially when heard through headphones, which is almost like a surround sound image.

Typically, a so-called artificial head is used for such recordings, in which microphones are simply built into the places where the ears are located, so that human hearing can be simulated in the best possible way. Bauer Studios GmbH is convinced that with today’s digital tools it is possible to create binaural mixes within an audio workstation, so that the musicians no longer have to be positioned around the dummy head during recording. In addition, this working method allows a more creative and freer handling of the musical content.

These recordings are now available in hi-res audio and thus studio master quality from the German specialist HIGHRESAUDIO, whereby it can be said that jazz lovers will get their money’s worth. It is also remarkable that the recordings are offered at very attractive prices, only € 10,- are to be paid for the albums offered here.
