The loudspeaker systems that Sonus faber S.p.A. has developed, such as the Sonus faber Heritage Collection, have always been seen as the perfect blend of rich history and modern technology. These loudspeaker systems are clearly reminiscent of the very first models from the Italian specialist, and more than that, they are intended as a tribute to them.
This also applies to the latest model, which Sonus faber S.p.a. is now presenting in the form of the new Sonus faber Concertino G4. This fourth generation of the long-legendary compact shelf speaker in the form of a two-way system is once again set to prove itself as a true masterpiece, offering unrivalled sound quality.
The 4th generation – based on technologies from the Sonus faber Suprema
It is hardly surprising that Sonus faber S.p.a. is talking about the fact that it has relied on the latest technologies in the proven manner when presenting the new Sonus faber Concertino G4, because, as already mentioned, this has always been an important feature of all solutions in this product line.
It will also come as no surprise that the new Sonus faber Concertino G4 is based on technologies that have emerged from the development of the Sonus faber Suprema.
Walnut and cork for the cabinet – Optimised Cork Monocoque
The centrepiece of the new Sonus faber Concertino G4 is the use of special materials, with exclusive materials having always played a special role in the production of solutions from Sonus faber S.p.a., especially in product lines such as the Sonus faber Heritage Collection.
In this case, however, cork stands out above all, as it is used to make large parts of the internal housing. The manufacturer itself refers to this as an optimised cork monocoque. This, together with the already classic trapezoidal shape of the Sonus faber Concertino G4, is intended to provide the best possible basis for the optimal functioning of the loudspeaker chassis, as this is particularly effective in preventing internal resonances and thus makes additional damping material unnecessary.
The cabinet also has a walnut finish, which gives the speaker systems a particularly elegant touch, especially since it is only used on the sides, and the baffle, the top and bottom, and the rear panel are covered with leather.
Incidentally, the side panels are made of solid walnut, not just veneered MDF. The side panels also have a ribbed surface that improves structural integrity and rigidity, which means that internal struts can be largely dispensed with.
The tie rods with brass end caps provide an attractive contrast, as does the brass connection panel, an aluminium ring that adorns the tweeter and a walnut end cap for the rear-firing bass reflex system.
Vegan leather made in Italy
Leather has traditionally played an important role at Sonus faber S.p.a., and this is also the case with the new Sonus faber Concertino G4, as large parts of the cabinet are covered with black leather, as already mentioned.
However, this is a very special leather, a purely vegan leather that was developed in collaboration with Ohoskin. The basis for this material is waste from agriculture, with oranges and cacti forming the basis, as the manufacturer explains. This results in a 100% Italian-made alternative to conventional leather.
Classic two-way bass reflex system
From a purely technical point of view, the new Sonus faber Concertino G4 is a compact shelf-mounted loudspeaker system that has been realised in the form of a two-way bass reflex system.
The developers rely on a 1.1-inch DAD Arrow Point tweeter and a long-throw driver as a mid-bass driver with a 5.25-inch membrane made of cellulose and a powerful drive. With the help of the bass reflex system at the back, the new Sonus faber Concertino G4 is said to be able to reproduce a frequency range between 60 Hz and 25 kHz, with the crossover set at 1.7 kHz. With an impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 85 dB, this loudspeaker is designed for amplifiers with a power output between 30 and 150 watts.
The new Sonus faber Concertino G4 measures 314 x 214 x 297 mm and weighs 6,6 kg per unit.
It should be emphasised that there is, of course, a perfectly matching stand for the Sonus faber Concertino G4, which reaches these dimensions of 1,044 x 270 x 320 mm. The stand is made of stainless steel, but also has an application made of walnut and weighs 14,5 kg. The height-adjustable spikes are, of course, made of brass, in keeping with the style and the speakers.
Sonus faber Concertino G4 Maestro Edition – Only 300 units
The first 300 units of this model series will be designed as the so-called Sonus faber Concertino G4 Maestro Edition, to serve as particularly elegant solutions on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the very first Sonus faber Concertino.
A brass plaque with the serial number engraved in the walnut side panels serves as proof that this is one of only 300 units.

The new Sonus faber Concertino G4 should be available from specialist retailers in the next few days. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is € 4.750,- per pair.
