Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 – DualPitch combines bone conduction technology with dynamic drivers

The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is the new flagship of the Shokz company, which wants to revolutionise the market for so-called open-ear headphones with this new model. For the first time, bone conduction technology is combined with a classic driver to create Shokz DualPitch technology.

Story Highlights
  • Shokz is convinced that the new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is a solution that will revolutionise the open-ear headphone market.

Shokz Holding Limited is clearly a proven specialist in headphones designed for outdoor and sports use. Robust solutions that can withstand wind and weather and that come up with special concepts and technologies. For example, the headphones are designed as so-called open-ear headphones and so far have mostly relied on Shokz Bone Conducting Technology, in which sound is transmitted directly via the user’s cheekbones using a special transducer.

With the new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, Shokz Holding Limited now wants to have a product in its range for the first time that combines the aforementioned Bone Conducting Technology with a classic driver, thus enabling particularly outstanding results.

Shokz DualPitch Technology – a new way to listen to music while exercising

As already mentioned, Shokz Bone Conduction Technology is based on a Shokz Bone Conduction Transducer, which rests directly on the user’s cheekbone when the headphones are worn, thus transmitting the sound to the ear in this way. Headphones designed in this way can be made more robust and resistant to water than conventional designs. What’s more, headphones like this can even be made completely waterproof.

Sound transmission based on Shokz Bone Conduction Technology also works quite well, especially at high and medium frequencies, but it clearly shows weaknesses in the bass range, so you have had to compromise with solutions like this so far.

With the new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2, this should no longer be the case, because the disadvantage of bone conduction technology in the mid and especially low frequency range is now compensated for with an additional dynamic driver.

The new Shokz DualPitch Technology is now used, in which an ultra-thin bone-conduction driver ensures precise reproduction of high frequencies, while the 18 x 11 mm low-frequency driver, a Shokz Air Conduction Transducer, as already known from the Shokz OpenFit Air, delivers powerful bass.

Of course, the so-called Shokz DirectPitch Technology, based on DSP-based signal processing, is also used, which precisely focuses the sound so that it is optimally emitted into the user’s ear canal.

According to the manufacturer, the result is an unrivalled listening experience that is both clear and powerful. In addition, the vibrations of bone conduction have been significantly reduced. This means that perfect sound is provided, even at high volumes.

Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint pairing

The new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 are equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 and use the Bluetooth profiles A2DP, AVRCP and HFP for signal transmission, but unfortunately only the lossy SBC. Thanks to Bluetooth multipoint pairing, a connection can be established with two source devices at the same time.

Optimal call quality, intelligent functions for convenient use

Of course, the new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 are equipped with microphones so that you can hold conversations at any time. These are designed so that ambient noise such as wind should not have any negative impact on the voice quality. In addition, a state-of-the-art AI algorithm ensures that up to 96.5 percent of background noise is filtered out.

With the help of the Shokz app, it is possible to configure the headphones as desired and, for example, to use an equaliser.

Of course, it is also possible to control the headphones directly via a multifunction button and volume control.

Ultra-light for maximum comfort

The new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 relies on a slim and lightweight headband construction made of nickel-titanium alloy covered with ultra-soft silicone. The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is IP55 certified and therefore resistant to dust and sweat as well as splashing water.

Up to twelve hours of playback

The integrated battery should allow for up to twelve hours of playback, as promised by the manufacturer. The new Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is charged via USB-C, with the corresponding interface hidden behind a waterproof cover. A quick-charge function means that five minutes of charging is enough for 2.5 hours of use.

“We have perfected the sound quality of our new flagship headphones, the OpenRun Pro 2, so that consumers can enjoy music even more while keeping an open ear. There is no doubt that the OpenRun Pro 2 takes the open-ear market to a new level.”

Leon Du, Europe Market Director at Shokz
