Shanling CR60 CD transport and CD ripper

Shanling Audio describes the new Shanling CR60 CD Transport & CD Ripper, which is now coming onto the market at an extremely attractive price, as a compact solution that allows both playing and ripping audio CDs.

Story Highlights
  • The new Shanling CR60 CD transport & CD ripper is designed to be a particularly flexible device for CD lovers at an attractive price.

For several months now, the Shanling company has been clearly pushing the desktop audio solutions sector, presenting solutions that, in a compact form, can easily find their place in the living room and can therefore be used very flexibly. Interestingly, one of the main focuses is on solutions for playing audio CDs, which clearly shows that the company is convinced that this medium is by no means obsolete, as many would like to claim in view of the dominance of streaming.

Shanling’s latest desktop audio solution is once again designed to play audio CDs, although it should also be possible to rip CDs. The new Shanling CR60 CD Transport & CD Ripper is proving to be a very exciting product.

Cost-effective CD transport

The new Shanling CR60 CD Transport & CD Ripper is intended as a solution that represents a compact and simple device that makes CD collections accessible in the simplest way possible, especially in times of dominant streaming solutions, is how the manufacturer describes the intention behind the development of its latest product.

In the simplest case, the Shanling CR60 is a way to play audio CDs, but, as the name suggests, it is a pure CD transport. It does not have a converter, so it transfers this task to an amplifier system or active speaker systems, to which it is connected via an optical or coaxial S/PDIF interface. A USB-A port is also available for integrating a D/A converter, specifically a USB dongle.

CD Ripper – rip audio CDs directly to your PC, smartphone or DAP

It is particularly exciting that the new Shanling CR60 can also be used to rip audio CDs, for example to make them accessible for streaming. To do this, the Shanling CR60 can be connected directly to a PC or Mac, or even to a smartphone with Google Android or even selected DAP models from Shanling, via a USB-C or USB-B port.

For portable devices such as smartphones and DAP models from Shanling, the Eddict Player app is available for ripping CDs. In the simplest case, the new Shanling CR60 is even able to rip CDs to a USB stick, as promised by the manufacturer.

Precise reading with high-quality drive

The reading of CDs should be particularly accurate, as the new Shanling CR60 not only relies on a high-quality Philips CD drive, but also an extremely precise Sanyo HD850 laser.

Compact in appearance

The new Shanling CR60 measures no more than 20 x 18 x 5 cm and is available in either silver or black. The front is, of course, adorned by the front-loading disc drive, and below that, all the relevant buttons for operation and a colour display can be found. An infrared remote control is included, and power can be supplied either via a 12 V DC power supply or via a USB-C port.

Prices and availability

Shanling states that the new Shanling CR60 will be available in stores as early as the end of September 2024. The company is quoting a target price of US$ 269,-.

Getting to the point

It is another solution from Shanling that is recommended for playing CDs in the desktop audio sector, which is now being introduced with the new Shanling CR60. This is initially a so-called CD transport, so the signal conversion is left to external specialists. But what makes the Shanling CR60 particularly exciting is that it is also a product that allows audio CDs to be ripped in the simplest possible way, not only when connected to a PC or Mac, but also to a smartphone with Google Android or a DAP from Shanling.
