Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar with Sony 360 Reality Audio

With the help of the latest firmware, the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar, which is outstanding in many respects, can now also play content with Sony 360 Reality Audio via Google Chromecast. In addition, this new firmware fixes some problems.

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar, this solution stands out in many ways from the ever-growing range of soundbar systems. Although it is the only solution of this kind from the German company Sennheiser electronics GmbH & Co. KG, the acoustic specialists have succeeded in creating an outstanding system.

It can be said that the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar performs at such a high level that one can really speak of a home cinema system for the living room, even though one should generally be rather cautious with this classification for pure soundbar systems.

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar a true Home Cinema System

The fact that we can speak of a solution that can actually meet home cinema demands is due to the unique concept of this soundbar. The manufacturer is able to offer a truly thrilling, immersive sound experience through a wide variety of measures, entirely with the soundbar, without an additional subwoofer or other surround speakers in the room.

The system is designed as a 5.1.4 sound system, delivering rich bass, precise mids and clear, detailed highs.

3D sound for movies in Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

The remarkable thing is that it not only processes content in the 3D audio formats Dolby Atmos, MPEG-H and DTS:X, but also plays back films encoded in these formats very accurately. This is made possible by 13 optimised speakers installed on the front, top and sides, but of course first and foremost by Sennheiser AMBEO Technology. In practical terms, the system works via room reflections, whereby the room is first analysed via a measuring function and the reproduction is calibrated accordingly.

3D Sound for Music via Sony 360 Reality Audio for Google Chromecast

What was already possible for films is now also to be available for music, i.e. true immersive 3D sound. For this purpose, the Sennheiser AMBEO is equipped with support for Sony 360 Reality Audio via the latest firmware 1.0.147 and relies on the streaming means Google Chromecast Built-in, which has been supported since the beginning.

Sony 360 Reality Audio for a new spatial music experience

Sony 360 Reality Audio is designed to create a completely new music experience through object-based spatial audio technology. This allows individual elements such as vocals, choir, piano, guitar, bass and even the ambience of a live audience to be placed in a spherical 360° sound field, giving creative artists entirely new ways to express themselves artistically. Listeners can immerse themselves in a sound world that is exactly as the artists intended. Music created in this new format can be played back conveniently via compatible streaming services, according to the promise from Sennheiser electronics GmbH & Co. KG.

“We are delighted that our AMBEO Soundbar with its impressive 3D sound now also supports 360 Reality Audio from Sony. Our customers can now stream music and enjoy exceptional spatial sound by simply downloading the latest firmware update without having to buy additional equipment.”

Maximilian Voigt, Product Manager, Sennheiser electronics GmbH & Co. KG

With the latest firmware update, users of a Sennheiser AMBEO soundbar can access Sony 360 Reality Audio content via Google Chromecast to stream music in 3D without the need for additional devices. Currently, the provider nugs.net offers Sony 360 Reality Audio via Chromecast, with other services and content expected to follow. TIDAL, for example, is also being discussed, as are Qobuz and even Amazon Music HD.

Further detailed improvements

The new firmware also includes a few bug fixes. For example, pop-noise bugs in some playback devices have been eliminated, as have problems with eARC in some TV sets.

The latest firmware is installed in the proven manner with the help of the Sennheiser Smart Control App, whereby the connection between the smartphone – regardless of whether Apple iOS or Google Android – takes place via Bluetooth. The soundbar itself must be connected to the network, whereby this can be done either via cable or WiFi.

Getting to the point

What the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar already offers for films, namely impressive immersive 3D sound, it should now also be able to do for music. The basis for this is the now implied support for Sony 360 Reality Audio via Google Chromecast by means of new firmware.
