Raidho X1.6 Reference – Raidho Acoustics combines Scandinavian understatement with uncompromising performance

Raidho Acoustics has never treated compact loudspeakers as lesser loudspeakers, and the new Raidho X1.6 Reference makes that position quite explicit. Based on the Raidho X1.6, the Reference version adds a hand-built crossover with Mundorf components, internal wiring derived from Nordost Valhalla technology, proprietary Raidho drivers and a rear passive radiator for greater low-frequency authority. The result is a discreet Danish loudspeaker with serious Reference intent, due to make its official appearance at HIGH END Vienna 2026.

Story Highlights
  • The Raidho X1.6 Reference is not a cosmetic update, but a deeper reworking of a compact High-end loudspeaker around crossover quality, internal wiring, driver control and bass foundation. It is aimed at listeners who want the scale, poise and refinement of a more ambitious system without giving up a room-friendly format.

Raidho Acoustics has sharpened the idea of the compact High-end loudspeaker with the new Raidho X1.6 Reference. The model remains visually restrained, as one would expect from a loudspeaker rooted in Scandinavian design culture, yet its engineering brief is far from modest. A fully hand-built crossover with Mundorf components, internal wiring based on Nordost Valhalla technology, Raidho’s own drive units and a rear-mounted passive radiator are intended to give the compact enclosure greater foundation, openness and musical authority.

For Dantax Radio A/S, the Raidho X1.6 Reference therefore sits in a very deliberate position: a room-friendly loudspeaker system with clear Reference aspirations, hand-built in Denmark and set to be shown for the first time at HIGH END Vienna 2026 at the Austria Center Vienna.

Raidho X1.6 Reference – compact, but not small in ambition

With the Raidho X1.6 Reference, Raidho Acoustics presents a more advanced interpretation of the Raidho X1.6. According to the manufacturer, this is not a minor model update, but a significantly more ambitious execution of a familiar compact loudspeaker concept. The target is clear enough: the Raidho X1.6 Reference is intended to bring openness, control and musical ease into a room-friendly loudspeaker format, qualities more commonly associated with larger designs.

At the heart of the new model is a newly specified, fully hand-built crossover. Raidho Acoustics uses high-grade Mundorf components and combines them with internal wiring based on Nordost Valhalla technology. Notably, according to the manufacturer, this wiring is used not only within the loudspeaker itself, but also inside the crossover. That matters, because the crossover is one of the most musically decisive areas of any loudspeaker design, yet in compact loudspeakers it is often discussed less prominently than drivers, cabinet size or bass extension.

Proprietary Raidho drivers as the core of the concept

As is customary for Raidho Acoustics, the technical profile of the loudspeaker is closely tied to in-house driver development and production. The Raidho X1.6 Reference uses the company’s familiar Raidho ribbon tweeter, a driver conceived around extremely low moving mass, speed and a finely resolved, open presentation.

This is partnered by a 6,5 Zoll mid/bass driver with a ceramic/aluminium diaphragm. This unit, too, is produced in Raidho’s Danish manufactory. The company’s control over driver production, voicing, crossover design, internal wiring and final assembly is central to its loudspeaker philosophy. The aim is not to make one spectacular technical element dominate the story, but to create a coherent acoustic system in which the individual elements are meant to work audibly together.

More foundation from a rear passive radiator

One of the most important changes over the existing Raidho X1.6 is the rear-mounted passive radiator. It is intended to give the Raidho X1.6 Reference more low-frequency energy, a more stable foundation and greater authority in the lower frequency range.

The intention, according to the manufacturer, is not to make a compact loudspeaker sound artificially oversized. Rather, the added bass capability is meant to stabilise the entire musical picture. Voices should gain body, instruments should occupy space with greater clarity, and the presentation as a whole should acquire a more convincing sense of scale. In this respect, Raidho Acoustics positions the Raidho X1.6 Reference as a compact loudspeaker system that, in the right room and system context, should be able to behave with some of the authority of a small floorstanding loudspeaker.

Scandinavian design, Danish production

Visually, the Raidho X1.6 Reference follows a clean and restrained design language. The loudspeaker system is intended to integrate into refined living spaces without demanding visual attention. For Raidho Acoustics, this quiet Scandinavian line is not merely a matter of style. It is part of the broader design logic: technology, cabinet, drivers and mechanical execution should work together rather than compete for attention.

Each pair is hand-built in Denmark. The manufacturer does not present this as a nostalgic gesture, but as a necessary consequence for a loudspeaker system of this class. In a compact High-end loudspeaker, the precision of each detail has a direct influence on how freely, stably and credibly music can detach itself from the cabinet.

A new stand for Raidho and Scansonic

Alongside the Raidho X1.6 Reference, Raidho Acoustics is also introducing a new loudspeaker stand. It will be available in black and white and has been developed first and foremost for the new Raidho X1.6 Reference, but also for further compact loudspeaker solutions from Raidho Acoustics and its sister brand Scansonic.

The new stand is intended to provide a stable, visually clean and mechanically suitable base. It follows the same design line as the loudspeakers themselves: reduced, functional and high-quality. For serious compact loudspeakers, the right stand is not merely an accessory. Placement, decoupling and stability have a direct effect on precision, imaging and bass control, making the support system part of the acoustic result.

“With the X1.6 Reference, we wanted to show how far you can take a compact loudspeaker when every detail is taken seriously. The original X1.6 was already an exceptionally musical loudspeaker. But the Reference version lifts the concept to a new level. The crossover, the internal wiring, the passive radiator and our own Raidho drivers work together to create a sound that feels much larger, more complete and more assured than the dimensions would suggest.”

Morten Kim Nielsen, CEO of Raidho Acoustics

Getting to the point

With the Raidho X1.6 Reference, Raidho Acoustics refines a concept that will appeal to many demanding listeners: a compact loudspeaker system that is not trying to impress through sheer size, but through constructional discipline. Mundorf components, Nordost Valhalla technology, proprietary Raidho drivers, a passive radiator and Danish hand assembly form a package that is clearly positioned above a conventional compact loudspeaker variant. For listeners seeking High-end reproduction in a format that can be integrated with finesse, the Raidho X1.6 Reference should be firmly on the audition list.
