The new Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E is a compact subwoofer that is primarily intended to expand compact hi-fi systems from Pro-Ject Audio Systems, such as the Pro-Ject Box Design Series or solutions such as the Pro-Ject Juke Box E1 HiFi Set or Pro-Ject Juke Box S2 Stereo Set and the Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System.

Pro-Ject Audio Systems has always seen itself as a supplier that can cover the entire spectrum of hi-fi solutions. Even if the main focus is of course on record players, the company has a very broad product portfolio of fine electronic components and also offers loudspeaker systems and subwoofers.
With the latest Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E subwoofer, a particularly attractive system for solid bass is now available, which is of course primarily designed as an extension for hi-fi systems from Pro-Ject Audio Systems.
Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E as an extension of the Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series
If you look at the Pro-Ject Audio Systems range of loudspeaker systems, the Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series is quite broadly based, because in addition to three bookshelf loudspeaker systems, four floor-standing loudspeaker systems are also available.
Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5, Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 S2 and Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 DS2 – this is the line-up for bookshelf speaker systems, while the floor-standing speaker systems currently include Pro-Ject Speaker Box 10, Pro-Ject Speaker Box 10 S2, Pro-Ject Speaker Box 10 DS2 and Pro-Ject Speaker Box 15 DS2.
The speaker systems are offered individually as well as in combination with hi-fi components from the Pro-Ject Box Design Series or record players designed as an all-in-one system, for example the Pro-Ject Juke Box E1 HiFi Set, Pro-Ject Juke Box S2 Stereo Set or the Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System.
If you want to round off the range of these solutions at the bottom end, the Pro-Ject Sun Box 50 subwoofer has been available until now, and the new subwoofer from Pro-Ject Audio Systems, the Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E, is now the perfect solution.
Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E – Closed construction
It is astonishing that many subwoofers in the compact, low-cost class are usually designed as bass reflex systems, but not the new Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E. This is a so-called downfiring subwoofer. This is a so-called downfiring subwoofer, which has been designed as a closed construction and therefore guarantees a particularly accurate performance, according to Pro-Ject Audio Systems.
Speaking of compact, with dimensions of just 205 x 280 x 205 mm, the new Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E can quite rightly be described as a compact solution, which is made of MDF, painted in high-gloss black or high-gloss white, and thus weighs in at 6 kg.
As a so-called downfiring subwoofer, as we have already mentioned, this solution sits on feet to guarantee even dispersion of the 130 mm diameter woofer.
The woofer is powered by an amplifier with an output of 50 watts RMS or 100 watts peak and should be able to reproduce a frequency range between 38 and 160 Hz.
Simple handling
The metal connection and control panel actually offers everything you would expect in this price range. Not only are mono and stereo line ins available as RCA connections, but also high-level inputs in the form of bananas. In addition to a rotary control for the level and another for the crossover frequency (25 to 155 Hz), there is a toggle switch for the phase, another toggle switch for selecting the operating mode (Always on, Auto-on) and a main switch.
Prices and availability
The new Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E will soon be available from specialist retailers. As we have already mentioned, the customer can choose between high-gloss black and high-gloss white. The recommended retail price is listed at € 299,-.

Above all, the new compact subwoofer, the Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E, is designed to expand a wide range of hi-fi solutions from Pro-Ject Audio Systems. These can be, for example, self-assembled hi-fi chains consisting of components from the Pro-Ject Box Design Series, or one of the complete systems offered by Pro-Ject Audio Systems, in which a record player always takes centre stage. The new Pro-Ject Sub Box 50 E, in combination with the aforementioned electronics and loudspeaker systems from the Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series, is designed to provide reproduction including tight, precise bass.
