- Pro-Ject Audio Systems now presents the latest generation of the Pro-Ject Debut turntable in the form of the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2.
The so-called Pro-Ject Debut Series is considered one of the most important in the broad product range of the Austrian HiFi specialist Pro-Ject Audio Systems, because the company always offers solutions that embody the company philosophy most clearly with an outstanding price-performance ratio. It goes without saying that this also applies to the latest generation, which will be presented for the first time at High-end 2024 in Munich.
Accordingly, the presentation of the new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 caused quite a stir, as this turntable was the main focus of Pro-Ject Audio Systems’ presentation at the trade fair in Munich.
Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 – The successor to the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO
To get straight to the point, the new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 has been chosen as the successor to the Pro-Ject Carbon EVO. This is quite a demanding task, as the aforementioned drive was considered to be extremely successful, so the new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 should have some outstanding features to fulfil this challenge.
Relying on the tried and tested, optimising the details
The new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 is of course also a turntable with a slimline housing made of MDF. The manufacturer claims that this material has hardly any effect on resonances that could damage the sound and provides a very stable base, especially as the entire turntable rests on height-adjustable feet that are designed to achieve the best possible decoupling of the turntable.
The platter of the new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 deserves special mention, as it is made of particularly stable aluminium, although special damping using TPE ensures that no resonances that could damage the sound occur here either.
The platter is driven by a belt via a sub-platter, whereby a smooth-running motor with electronic speed control is used, the speed of which can be selected between 33 1/3, 45 and 78 revolutions per minute.
8.6 inch carbon tonearm
With the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2, the developers have used a tonearm that is 8.6 inches long and made entirely of carbon fibre. This means that the tonearm tube merges seamlessly into the headshell, which according to Pro-Ject Audio Systems is clearly the best solution for getting the best performance out of a tonearm.
The tonearm can follow the groove of the record precisely thanks to sapphire bearings and, of course, all relevant settings can be made to optimise the tonearm for a wide variety of cartridge systems.
However, the new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 comes with a cartridge system pre-installed from the factory, namely an MM cartridge from Pro-Ject Audio Systems, the Pro-Ject Pick it MM EVO.
High-quality cable included in the scope of delivery
According to Pro-Ject Audio Systems, one feature of a turntable that is often not really considered is the cable with which it is connected to the phono preamplifier, although this is a decisive factor for the quality. Accordingly, the company equips its own turntables with high-quality cables and also offers a comprehensive range of accessories for any upgrades.
For example, the new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 not only features gold-plated RCA sockets on its connection panel, but also comes with a Pro-Ject Connect it E cable.
It should also be mentioned that a matching dust cover is included with the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2, as is a felt mat for the turntable.
In a wide range of colours
Pro-Ject Audio Systems has always been colourful, and the new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 is no exception, as this turntable is available in a wide variety of designs.
White, Black, Golden Yellow, Steel Blue, Fir Green and Wine Red are available in a satin finish. The turntable is also available in a high-gloss finish in White, Red and Black. But that’s not all, the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 is also available in a Real-wood Walnut finish.
Finally, it should be mentioned that the drive measures 415 x 95 x 330 mm and thus weighs 5,6 kg, as the data sheet reveals.

The new Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 will soon be available from specialist retailers, as Pro-Ject Audio Systems explains. The company is quoting a recommended retail price of € 699,- at the High-end 2024 in Munich.
