Unfortunately, it is often the case that so-called bookshelf loudspeaker systems are not used in the best possible way and are therefore not able to realise their full potential.
Of course, bookshelf loudspeaker systems are mostly chosen because they are comparatively compact solutions for which it is easier to find a place than in the case of “full-grown” floor-standing loudspeaker systems.
However, even bookshelf loudspeaker systems require compliance with a few basic rules, and that is, first and foremost, a solid foundation that enables reproduction free of sound-damaging vibrations. This means that all elements of the design and the acoustics are carefully coordinated. The focus should not be too much on one or the other, only the optimal combination of both gives the best possible result. The Monitor Audio ST-2 Universal Stand, for example, is designed to be discreetly elegant to fit into any listening room, but from a technical point of view it is also designed to create the optimal basis for a musically neutral, transparent performance.
Solid, slender construction
The base here is an extruded aluminium column that features a cable management system and can be filled with sand for optimal damping, if desired. A stable base made of die-cast aluminium, individually adjustable feet, as well as the design for hard floors as well as carpeted floors also speak for the new Monitor Audio ST-2 Universal Stand, which is optionally available in matt black as well as matt white. With dimensions of 597 x 347 x 405 mm, this solution weighs 7.4 kg.
Prices and availability
The new Monitor Audio ST-2 Universal Stand and thus the stand that can be used for the compact speakers of the Monitor Audio Gold Series or Monitor Audio Platinum 3G Series as well as many other bookshelf speaker systems will have a recommended retail price of € 678,-. It is not yet clear when it will actually be available in specialist shops. What is clear, however, is that it will be available in both matt white and matt black.
