For many years, the product range of the English loudspeaker specialist Monitor Audio Ltd. has included the Monitor Audio Climate Garden Series, a product line designed solely for outdoor use, in this case – as the name suggests – in the garden. Now Monitor Audio Ltd. is presenting another product line of loudspeaker systems designed for outdoor use, but not only.
The solutions offered by the new Monitor Audio Climate 3G Series are designed to provide speakers that deliver fine sound both indoors and outdoors and, thanks to their robust construction and flexible mounting options, can be the solution of choice wherever conventional products are not suitable.
The perfect sound everywhere
Whether in a private environment or in business premises, in the catering or hotel industry, the custom installation sector presents very special challenges, especially in the area of loudspeaker systems. The systems must first be able to be integrated into a wide range of projects in a particularly flexible manner, so a wide range of installation options are just as relevant as an extremely robust design.
It should also be noted that the days when simple sound solutions were sufficient in this segment are long gone. The demand for sound quality in the custom installation sector is now very high in many cases, especially since the systems are sometimes seamlessly integrated into multi-room streaming systems. And why should you have to put up with poor sound quality on the terrace, by the pool or in the gym?
The models in the new Monitor Audio Climate 3G Series are designed to meet these demands, as Monitor Audio Ltd. has stated.
Two models – Monitor Audio CL2-S and Monitor Audio CL2-M
Monitor Audio Ltd. is launching the new Monitor Audio Climate 3G Series with two models, the Monitor Audio CL2-S and Monitor Audio CL2-M. What is exciting is that, in this regard, we are talking about a small model – the S in Monitor Audio CL2-S stands for Small – and a medium-sized model. The M in the Monitor Audio CL2-M model stands for medium. So it’s pretty clear that these two models won’t be the last of their kind…
The two systems differ, of course, in terms of the drivers used, but more on that in a moment.
It is important to note that the Monitor Audio CL2-S model, including the bracket, is no larger than 24,7 cm in height, 14 cm in width and 21,7 cm in depth. The larger Monitor Audio CL2-M model can also be described as compact, measuring 33,2 cm in height, 19 cm in width and 24 cm in depth, although these figures also include the bracket for wall or ceiling mounting.
Certified to IP66
It is also important to mention that the speakers are housed in a very robust enclosure made of glass-fibre reinforced ABS and that they are IP66 certified. This not only means that they are UV-resistant, dust-proof and resistant to splashing water such as rain, but that they can even withstand powerful jets of water from all directions. Even a lawn sprinkler cannot harm them, and they can be used in damp rooms without any problems.
One detail should be mentioned here: since the speakers are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, such as extreme cold or direct sunlight, it should be borne in mind that such temperature changes can alter the pressure in the housing and thus ultimately the sound. This is counteracted by a clever detail, namely a valve for any pressure compensation and thus the best possible sound under all conditions.
Flexible, robust mounting via Quik-Link system including cable management
As already mentioned, a flexible and robust mounting system is extremely important in the field of custom installation, which is why a die-cast aluminium bracket was chosen for the new solutions in the Monitor Audio Climate 3G Series.
The speaker cables are connected directly to the bracket via an intelligent cabling system, as the manufacturer emphasises. It is then only necessary to place the speaker on the bracket and fix it with a single screw.
This makes it possible to mount the Monitor Audio CL2-S and Monitor Audio CL2-M speaker systems both horizontally and vertically, quickly and easily, yet securely, on both walls and ceilings, with the angle being adjustable in eight steps of 11.25° each, up to a total of 180°, for perfect sound dispersion.
Driver technology of the Monitor Audio Silver 7G Series
As already mentioned, a speaker system in the custom installation sector must also meet high standards of sound quality. That is why the developers of the new Monitor Audio Climate 3G Series rely on technologies that are similar to those of the Monitor Audio Silver 7G Series.
The Monitor Audio CL2-S, for example, uses a Monitor Audio RST II 4-inch bass/midrange driver, while the Monitor Audio CL2-M relies on a Monitor Audio RST II 6-inch bass/midrange driver. In both cases, a 25 mm C-CAM Gold tweeter is available as a playing partner.
And that’s not all: for a superior sound reproduction down to the lowest frequencies, the speaker features an auxiliary bass radiator, or ABR for short, on the back. This is located on the back of the speaker and relies on an embossed hex pattern for stability and thus to avoid sound-damaging interference caused by uncontrolled movements of the membrane surface.
Technical data for the Monitor Audio CL2-S and Monitor Audio CL2-M
The Monitor Audio CL2-S is a two-way system that combines a 4-inch C-CAM RST II bass-mid driver and a 25-mm C-CAM Black Dome tweeter with an ABR. The loudspeaker system is designed for an impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity of 84 dB for amplifiers with a power of 150 watts and can reproduce a frequency range between 56 Hz and 30 kHz. The crossover is at 3.3 kHz. It measures 247 x 140 x 217 mm and weighs 2,7 kg.
The Monitor Audio CL2-M is also a two-way system, which relies on the combination of a 6-inch C-CAM RST II bass-mid driver and a 25-mm C-CACM Black Dome tweeter. Since this is also a closed construction, the bass foundation is once again supported by an auxiliary bass radiator, or ABR for short. With an impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity of 85,5 dB, the speaker system is designed for amplifiers with a power output of 200 watts and can reproduce a frequency range between 42 Hz and 30 kHz, with the crossover set at 2,6 kHz. With dimensions of 332 x 190 x 240 mm, this speaker system weighs 4,1 kg.
Prices and availability
The new Monitor Audio Climate 3G Series is expected to be available soon, with the Monitor Audio CL2-S and Monitor Audio CL2-M models in white and black available from specialist retailers from September 2024. The recommended retail price is € 698,- for the Monitor Audio CL2-S and € 848,- for the Monitor Audio CL2-M, with prices quoted per pair.
