Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual-Monaural Amplifier

The new Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual Monaural Amplifier is a powerful, fully discrete, direct-coupled dual monaural amplifier in Class AB, in the tradition of Mark Levinson solutions, offering exceptional performance and aesthetics.

Last year the US-American hi-fi manufacturer Mark Levinson founded the so-called Mark Levinson 5000 Series. With its solutions, the company entered the market in order to offer the usual excellent performance and outstanding quality of Mark Levinson’s solutions at a particularly attractive price point. This promise will now also apply to the latest solutions that the company plans to extend the Mark Levinson 5000 Series, such as the new Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual Monaural Amplifier.

What the new Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual Monaural Amplifier is specifically designed to do is partly in its name, as Mark Levinson says it is a bridgeable dual monaural amplifier that combines the finest materials with exclusive technology and craftsmanship to deliver exceptional aesthetics and functionality. He says it is a prime example of how precision engineering and daring design can be used to achieve the highest musicality and a flawless appearance.

The design of the new Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual-Monoaural Amplifier is also the main focus of the product description, as the company prides itself on the clear lines of the typical Mark Levinson look, an innovative industrial design in its most modern form.

For example, the manufacturer explicitly highlights the centimetre-thick, glass bead blasted and black anodised solid case front, which merges seamlessly into a glass display, which in turn is embedded in a glass bead blasted, clear anodised aluminium frame. A centrally arranged ring serves as an accent, but also serves as a standby display. Extremely solid aluminium handles frame the front and cooling fins are found on the sides, which are not only purely functional but are certainly seen as part of the design concept. The entire chassis is literally enthroned on custom-made aluminium feet.

Inside, fully discrete circuits are hidden, with a directly coupled body and Class AB. The basis for the amplifier circuits is an oversized 1,100 VA toroidal core transformer with individual secondary windings for the left and right channel. According to the manufacturer, the voltage amplification stage has a topology that was taken directly from the Mark Levinson N°534 Dual Monaural Amplifier. The output stage uses two high-speed Class A driver transistors and six 260 V 15 A output transistors. Special attention was paid to a guaranteed stable output bias voltage, independent of load or temperature, in order to always achieve optimal results. Last but not least, four 10,000 µF capacitors per channel contribute to this, providing the necessary reserves for an output of 135 watts per channel on loudspeaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms or even 270 watts per channel on speakers with only 4 ohms. If you opt for bridged operation, the new Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual Monaural Amplifier provides a massive 550 Watts into 4 Ohms.

At the inputs, balanced connections are available, specifically a pair of XLR sockets and an unbalanced input in the form of a pair of RCA sockets. The new Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual Monaural Amplifier features a pair of solid screw terminals for connecting the speakers.

Another essential feature of this class is that the new Mark Levinson N°5302 Bridgeable Dual Monaural Amplifier can be easily integrated into control solutions. For this purpose it is equipped with an RS232 interface as well as an RJ45 Ethernet interface. 12 V trigger inputs and outputs are included as well as an IR input. The USB port is only used for firmware updates.

“The N°5302 is simply a phenomenal amplifier, combining unrivalled Mark Levinson audio quality with the ability to drive virtually any speaker. The exceptional technology used in the N°5302, combined with the flexibility to be used as either a mono or stereo amplifier, results in a truly remarkable product that is a compelling addition to our extended 5000 Series range.”
