Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Edition

It is intended to revive the spirit of the 1970s, reflecting exactly the same aesthetics that characterised the original Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000, the new Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Edition record player presented on the occasion of Bang & Olufsen’s 95th birthday. However, the drives are not really “new”, but perfectly revised.

It is not necessarily regarded as a truly outstanding audiophile drive, nor is it one of the classic drives from proven specialists, but it is clearly a classic, the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000. This drive from Bang & Olufsen was launched in the early 1970s and surprised with its unique design, which ultimately makes it an icon and a highly sought-after collector’s item to this day.

As Bang & Olufsen celebrates its 95th anniversary this year, the company is taking the opportunity to revive the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000 design icon. Unlike other manufacturers, however, the company has decided not to rebuild this drive, but to buy the best preserved drives from the 1970s and have them completely overhauled and redesigned by a team of experts at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Struer, leaving only 95 available in the new Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Edition.

The initial task was to purchase selected drives that seemed suitable for this project and bring them “home” to the Bang & Olufsen factory in Struer, Denmark. Here these drives were actually produced in the 1970s.

Each drive was, according to Bang & Olufsen, completely dismantled so that proven experts could carry out a complete cleaning and really rule out any damage down to the last detail. If the worst came to the worst, old parts were of course replaced with new ones, especially if they were wearing parts. In addition, some elements have been completely redesigned, such as the handmade wooden frame with a new surface that is more in line with current design perceptions, and a minimalist control panel that is designed to be intuitive to use.

Furthermore, the drives have been equipped with a phono preamplifier so that customers can integrate the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Edition directly into their hi-fi system without any further investment. This drive is also equipped with a factory-fitted pickup system. For example, the tangential tonearm of the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Edition features a Bang & Olufsen SMMC 20 CL cartridge, which the manufacturer describes as a Moving Micro Cross Principle Cartridge and which has a Nude Contact Line Diamond.

Bang & Olufsen’s promise is that once assembled and optimised for optimum results, the reconditioned drives will be in mint condition.

As described above, there will only be 95 pieces of the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Edition, but you can already register for one of these drives directly on the manufacturer’s website. If you do manage to get hold of one of these drives, you should have the budget available. No less than € 10.000,- should be budgeted for the new Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Edition. Of course, the drives will be numbered and will be delivered in a very noble box. The box contains a power cable, a connecting cable, the user manual and, above all, a booklet about the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4002 Design Story.
