- It is the most powerful amplifier Marantz has ever built, and is now being presented with the new Marantz Model 10.
In its long history, the Japanese HiFi manufacturer Marantz has produced many a fine amplifier, solutions that make the hearts of die-hard HiFi enthusiasts beat faster and that have been considered true HiFi legends for years. It is all the more surprising, then, that the company is now talking about its latest stereo integrated amplifier as a new reference, a solution that cannot be compared to anything else, and that is even the most powerful amplifier that Marantz has ever built.
The talk is of the new Marantz Model 10, which is now being presented by Marantz and is said to stand out with its outstanding features. Above all, this stereo amplifier was developed and designed in the renowned Japanese Shirakawa Audio Works, where every innovative technology is dedicated to Kaizen, as Marantz emphasises.
Inspired by the past…
Of course, when developing such an outstanding solution, the company looks back on its long history, says Marantz. After all, as already mentioned, it is full of outstanding solutions, some of which have played a decisive role in the development of the entire HiFi industry.
But that doesn’t mean that the company doesn’t use the latest technology, quite the opposite. The new Marantz Model 10 is based on decades of experience in audio technology and introduces a range of new, innovative technologies.
Marantz Dual-Mono Symmetrical Amplifier Topology
The company emphasises the Marantz Dual-Mono Symmetrical Amplifier Topology as the most important feature of the new Marantz Model 10 and as the basis for this solution, which can boast enormous power of 250 watts into 8 ohms systems with an impedance of 8 ohms and even 500 watts into speakers with an impedance of just 4 ohms, while at the same time delivering the warmth, spatiality and resolution that are typical of Marantz sound.
In fact, the design relies on a construction in which not only the two channels, but also the preamplifier and power amplifier stages are completely separate, with the preamplifier relying on the latest Marantz HDAM modules, or Marantz HDAM S3, which have been considered a guarantee for an optimal combination of response speed and signal transparency for years. When it comes to the power amp, Marantz is proud to announce that it has teamed up with specialist Purifi Audio.
To ensure the best possible separation, separate linear power supplies are used for each power amp, with an additional one for the preamplifier.
But that’s not all: the design of the entire enclosure is such that complete separation of each individual section is guaranteed.
Solid aluminium and copper casing
The Marantz designers have given the new stereo integrated amplifier an almost solidly constructed housing, available in either black or champagne. The Marantz Model 10 initially features an anodised front panel made of brushed aluminium and an anodised aluminium back panel; the rest of the chassis is also made of aluminium, but in a three-layer construction and coated with copper.
The side panels alone have a wall thickness of up to 15.8 mm, the grille at the top is 6 mm thick, just to give you an idea of how solidly this chassis is designed, which sits on feet made of aluminium and coated with copper.
With dimensions of 440 × 192 × 473, this solution weighs an impressive 33,7 kg.
Just like the front, the inside of the amplifier is also illuminated, and the front is of course adorned by the brand’s now-typical round display, which is designed as an OLED and whose luminous intensity can be dimmed in 20 steps. In addition to the most important information about the operating status, it can also be used as a VU meter.
The volume control and input selector are CNC-machined from solid aluminium and integrated using high-quality bearings for a perfect feel and precise control.
A headphone connection and the tone control that is a standard feature of all Marantz stereo integrated amplifiers are also included.
A wide range of connections – balanced and unbalanced
If you look at the back of the new Marantz Model 10, you will see a variety of interfaces, both in unbalanced form as RCA jacks, and in balanced form and designed in the form of XLR. Among all the connections, there is also a phono preamplifier that is designed for both MM and MC pickup systems.
When one amplifier is not enough
Marantz explicitly emphasises that the new Marantz Model 10 also offers the advantages of bi-amping, so that further such amplifiers can be added. The so-called Marantz Floating Control Bus System, also known as F.C.B.S., is used for this purpose, seamlessly connecting and controlling the amplifiers. In this way, you can connect up to four Marantz Model 10s together, creating a truly impressive configuration.
The new Marantz Series 10
The new Marantz Model 10 is just the beginning of a completely new product line, as the Japanese HiFi manufacturer has already revealed. Further solutions are to be added soon, so that you can create a HiFi chain of the highest quality, Marantz promises.
Marantz Link 10n
With the Marantz Link 10n, for example, an extremely versatile and fully equipped high-end streaming preamplifier is available, whereby one speaks of a solution that, with advanced functionality, could be considered the ideal choice for those looking for a flexible, high-performance component for their reference audio system.
Marantz SACD 10
It wouldn’t be Marantz if every product line in the premium HiFi segment didn’t offer not just a CD player, but ideally a Super Audio CD player as well. It is therefore an absolute must that the new Marantz Series 10 also includes a Super Audio CD player in the form of the Marantz SACD 10.
The Japanese company speaks of a solution based on the proprietary Marantz SACD 3-Disc Transport, Marantz Musical Filtering and the latest generation of Marantz HDAM circuits. Apart from the fact that you can play audio CDs and Super Audio CDs in the best quality, an excellent D/A converter is also available, the signal conversion of which is also available to external sources.
Prices and availability
The new Marantz Model 10 should be available from specialist retailers soon. However, you should be prepared for the fact that this solution also plays in new price regions for Marantz. The Japanese HiFi manufacturer is calling for a recommended retail price of € 14.500,- for this solution.
