KEF Kube 8 MIE, KEF Kube 10 MIE, KEF Kube 12 MIE and KEF Kube 15 MIE

KEF is expanding its subwoofer product portfolio with four new models in the KEF Kube Series, or rather the new KEF Kube MIE Series, namely the KEF Kube 8 MIE, KEF Kube 10 MIE, KEF Kube 12 MIE and KEF Kube 15 MIE systems. Above all, unique technologies such as the KEF Music Integrity Engine are intended to ensure a particularly deep, precise and detailed reproduction of film and music.

Story Highlights
  • Thanks to innovative technologies, the new models in the KEF Kube MIE Series deliver particularly deep and detailed bass with unrivalled precision, according to British speaker specialist KEF.

What characterises the new KEF Kube Series and KEF Kube MIE Series subwoofer models, in addition to their remarkable features and elegant design in a compact form, is already evident in their names: MIE stands for nothing other than KEF Music Integrity Engine.

Behind this is DSP-based signal processing, which the British speaker specialist KEF considers to be one of the brand’s most important technological innovations. It is also used in the new KEF Kube 8 MIE, KEF Kube 10 MIE, KEF Kube 12 MIE and KEF Kube 15 MIE models to ensure precise bass response for music and film.

KEF Kube MIE Series – The right model for all room sizes

The manufacturer explicitly emphasises that the models in the new KEF Kube MIE Series offer the right model for almost every application, as the four models differ first and foremost in their size and therefore the drivers used in each case.

The spectrum ranges from the small KEF Kube 8 MIE to the huge KEF 15 MIE, according to the English company, with solutions with 8, 10, 12 and 15 inch driver diameters, providing a product line that is ideally equipped for all room sizes.

Elegant design with compact dimensions

To ensure that the subwoofers can be easily integrated into any living environment, KEF has opted for an elegant, modern design line in the proven manner, whereby in this case it is also a matter of comparatively compact solutions.

However, the models in the new KEF Kube MIE Series will initially only be available in a black finish, with a high-gloss finish for the enclosures.

Closed construction

All models in the new KEF Kube MIE Series are designed as front-firing subwoofers with a closed construction, which should provide the basis for a particularly precise performance, as the manufacturer emphasises.

KEF Music Integrity Engine

As we have already mentioned, KEF cites the KEF Music Integrity Engine as a particularly important feature of the new subwoofers. This is a DSP-based signal processing system developed by the English company, which is designed to ensure that all components in the subwoofer work together in the best possible way. To guarantee this, the KEF Music Integrity Engine is optimised specifically for each product.

KEF iBX Intelligent Bass Extension

One part of the KEF MIE is the so-called KEF iBX Intelligent Bass Extension. According to KEF, this is designed to generate extended depth in order to fully utilise the potential of the individual driver. By analysing the input signal, this DSP algorithm, in conjunction with Class D amplifier modules and the long-throw drivers, makes it possible to play louder and deliver a dynamic performance at any level.

Three EQ modes

Also part of the KEF Music Integrity Engine in the case of the KEF Kube MIE Series are three EQ modes, which are intended to ensure optimum customisation of the individual set-up literally at the touch of a button. A selector switch on the subwoofer connection panel allows you to choose between In-room, Wall/Cabinet and Corner.

Various connection options

Speaking of the connection panel, not only are all the relevant tools for optimising playback to individual conditions available here, but also a wide range of connection options for flexible use.

In addition to a pair of RCA sockets, which uses KEF SmartConnect to recognise whether a mono or stereo signal is present, there are also high-level inputs and an option to control the subwoofers “wirelessly”. The optional KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit is used for this purpose.

KEF Kube 8 MIE

The KEF Kube 8 MIE has an 8-inch driver, which is powered by a Class D amplifier module with an impressive 300 watts of power and can therefore reproduce a frequency range between 34 Hz and 140 Hz and deliver a maximum sound pressure level of 105 dB. This is remarkable in that this subwoofer measures no more than 293 x 293 x 310 mm and thus weighs 9,4 kg. KEF recommends the KEF Kube 8 MIE for rooms between 5 and 25 m2 in size.

KEF Kube 10 MIE

The KEF Kube 10 MIE model is designed for rooms between 5 and 35 m2 in size. It has a 10-inch driver driven by a Class D amplifier module with 300 watts of power and can therefore reproduce a frequency range between 20 Hz and 140 Hz and develop 111 dB. This subwoofer measures 370 x 353 x 370 mm and weighs 15,4 kg.

KEF Kube 12 MIE

The KEF Kube 12 MIE is a subwoofer from the new KEF Kube MIE Series that relies on a 12-inch driver. Here too, the Class D amplifier module has an output of 300 watts. This subwoofer can reproduce a frequency range between 22 Hz and 140 Hz and develop a sound pressure level of up to 114 dB. With dimensions of 410 x 393 x 410 mm, it weighs in at 18,6 kg and is designed for rooms between 10 and 55 m2.

KEF Kube 15 MIE

The KEF Kube 15 MIE is the top model in the new KEF Kube MIE Series, which uses a 15-inch driver and a Class D amplifier module to power it with 300 watts. The subwoofer, measuring 519 x 500 x 515 mm and weighing an impressive 27,5 kg, is said to cover a frequency range between 20 Hz and 140 Hz and generate a sound pressure level of 116 dB. According to the manufacturer’s recommendation, this solution is therefore suitable for rooms between 15 and 70 m2 in size.

Prices and availability

The models in the new KEF Kube MIE Series should all be available from specialist retailers from March 2024. The recommended retail price for the KEF Kube MIE 8 model is € 649,-, the KEF Kube MIE 10 model is expected to cost € 799,- and the KEF Kube MIE 12 € 899,-. The top model, the KEF Kube MIE 15, costs € 1.299,-.

Getting to the point

According to the British speaker specialist KEF, the subwoofers in the new KEF Kube MIE Series are extremely versatile solutions for music and film, offering not only modern features such as the eponymous KEF Music Integrity Engine or the latest long-throw drivers as well as efficient Class D amplifier modules and versatile connection options paired with an elegant design line, but also attractive prices.
