EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable – Chassis made out of concrete

The EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable is the latest turntable from E.A.T. - European Audio Team and once again it is said to be a particularly exquisite solution. The developers around Jozefine Lichtenegger rely on a chassis made of a rather unusual material, namely concrete.

Story Highlights
  • The new EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable is described by E.A.T. - European Audio Team as an audiophile statement cast in concrete.

When the company E.A.T. – European Audio Team first presented the EAT C-Dur turntable, it was said that the intention was to offer the outstanding virtues of the reference drive EAT Forte or EAT Forte S in a more compact and affordable form. It was to be a particularly elegant drive, which the manufacturer itself described as an audiophile premium turntable.

Now a very special variant of the EAT C-Dur turntable is being presented, namely the new EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable. As the name suggests, this is a solution that uses a very special material for its chassis, namely concrete.

Unique concrete frame

Concrete is a material that is not used very often in the world of HiFi, but it is used occasionally. Many developers, for example, rely on it for loudspeaker systems, and of course there are rack systems made of concrete on the market. However, the fact that concrete is chosen as a material for a record player is actually a first in this case.

From the point of view of E.A.T. – European Audio Team, however, the fact that the frame of the EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable is made of concrete is more than just an aesthetic statement; the company even speaks of a technical highlight in this context.

The special properties of concrete, such as its high density and the resulting high mass, are said to provide enormous damping, thus preventing any sound-damaging interference such as vibrations or resonances from the outset.

To get an idea of the weight involved here, the turntable weighs no less than 32 kg. Since the chassis is manufactured using the latest concrete casting process, there is nothing to prevent it from looking perfect, and the turntable should be able to blend in stylishly with any living environment thanks to its modern look.

It should be mentioned that the special surface structure of the concrete casting process mentioned above is always unique, making each turntable a one-of-a-kind.

10-inch tonearm

The EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable is equipped with a 10-inch tonearm with a carbon tonearm tube. This is the EAT C-Note tonearm, which, according to the manufacturer, combines all the advantages of a unipivot tonearm with those of a cardan joint design.

The turntable is connected via a semi-symmetrical 5-pin DIN to RCA cable, which is included in the scope of delivery and can be upgraded to a fully symmetrical cable at any time.

Heavy aluminium platter

The platter of the new EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable is made of aluminium and weighs a hefty 5,2 kg with the appropriate damping. In addition, an aluminium sub-platter is used here, which weighs 900 g and is driven by the platter via a belt.

The bearing of the drive must be designed accordingly, which is why a very solid bearing is used here that weighs no less than 1,8 kg. In the tried and tested manner, the developers rely on an inverted bearing, in which a stainless steel axle, polished to a flawless high gloss, is used with a ceramic ball as an insert at the tip, in order to ensure the highest running smoothness with the lowest friction in interaction with a Teflon coating on the bearing surface.

Quiet, decoupled motor

The motor of the new EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable is an ultra-low noise synchronous motor that is operated by an external power supply with 15 V DC 1.6 A and an AC generator and is installed in such a way that it is completely decoupled from the chassis.

An electronic motor control system ensures both comfort and the highest precision in terms of speed, allowing the selection of speeds between 33 and 45 revolutions per minute at the touch of a button. The corresponding aluminium buttons with integrated status LEDs are perfectly integrated into the chassis.

Prices and availability

The new EAT C-Dur Concrete Turntable should be available from specialist retailers from now on. Those who are interested in this turntable will have to budget € 7.490,- as the recommended retail price.
