Once again, Danish loudspeaker specialist Dali Speaker A/S presents a fabulous recording that expands the company’s corresponding range in this field: Nicolai Kornerup “Circles”.
Nicolai Kornerup “Circles” is the first solo album by the Danish pianist, who presents a wonderful recording. This recording was produced by the Danish loudspeaker specialist Dali Speaker A/S, which once again demonstrates its skill in selecting outstanding artists.
Alone with piano accompanied by strings, Nicolai Kornerup performs a musical, very atmospheric journey through the Nordic nature.
We have to admit, we couldn’t make anything of the name Nicolai Kornerup until now, but Dali Speaker A/S describes him as an established Danish pianist and composer with a background in classical, rhythmic and folk music.
And it is precisely this that is to the credit of Dali Speaker A/S, that artists who have a certain reputation in Denmark are also being heard internationally. These efforts by Dali Speaker A/S have been going on for some time now.
Like so many other companies in the hi-fi business, Dali Speaker began to produce a variety of demo CDs that were intended to showcase the full potential of a hi-fi system with fine music, using well-known audiophile recordings. Even if they showed a special skill in the selection of the pieces, thus standing out pleasantly from the standard mush in this area, at some point they wanted more.
With the sampler Dali Volume 5, they began to produce their own recordings of the highest quality by Danish artists from various genres.
Since then, new recordings have been presented from time to time, such as the new album Nicolai Kornerup “Circles”.
As already described, this is the first solo album by the Danish artist who, according to Dali Speaker A/S, conceived this out of a longing to return to a more acoustic expression as well as a meditative instrumental approach where melody and counterpoint are at the centre of the compositions.
Nicolai Kornerup was inspired here by Nordic nature, the sounds of which he attempts to capture here, relying solely on piano with gentle string accompaniment. The softness of Nordic folk tunes and the beauty of classical pieces, inspired by Bach, Debussy and Jan Johansson, are to form a new unity here.
Excitingly, the work is meant to encompass all 24 keys and is therefore named Circles, with this recording being the first part of the entire work.
Incidentally, Nicolai Kornerup is accompanied on piano by Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen and Madara Petersone on violin, Deanna Said on viola, and Live Johansson on cello.
Price and availability
The new album is available directly from the Dali Speaker A/S web shop, with only an audio CD available at the moment, at a reasonable € 25,-. We are sure that Dali Speaker A/S will offer further options in their tried and tested manner, first and foremost on vinyl, and possibly also as a hi-res download.
Getting to the point
It’s an album that grips with impressive calm, yet builds up an arc of tension over ten tracks, thus captivating the listener. An audiophile album that doesn’t seem to fit into the usual cliché of this category at all and thus corresponds exactly to the strategy that the Danish loudspeaker specialist Dali Speaker A/S has been following for years: “In Admiration of Music”. Absolutely worth listening to!
