Celebrating an Icon – Steinway & Sons Model D 15th Anniversary Edition

With the new Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker 15th Anniversary Edition, the Danish company Steinway Lyngdorf wants to celebrate a special anniversary, namely the 15th birthday of SL Audio A/S. It was in 2007 that the high-end hi-fi specialist based in Skive, Denmark, was founded and it was also in that year that the first loudspeaker system, the Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker, was launched. So what could be more natural than to present a very special special model this year, namely the Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker 15th Anniversary Edition.

Steinway Lyngdorf – A unique cooperation

Although the company’s official name is SL Audio A/S, it is well known under the brand name Steinway Lyngdorf. This name clearly refers to a very unusual cooperation, which, as already mentioned, began in 2007.

Steinway & Sons, one of the most famous piano manufacturers, decided to cooperate with Lyngdorf Audio, a proven high-end hi-fi specialist with special expertise in the areas of digital amplifiers and room calibration.

The very first project was to demonstrate what this new partnership is capable of, with an outstanding loudspeaker system, the Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker.

Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker – A loudspeaker system capable of extraordinary performance

The developers’ declared aim with the Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker was to create a solution capable of reproducing the full sound of a Steinway & Sons concert grand piano, so that even concert pianists would not be able to tell the difference.

Steinway Lyngdorf still describes the result as technically and visually outstanding. They relied on four large woofers, two midrange drivers and a tweeter in a very unusual, completely open dipole design.

The construction of the loudspeaker system is based on an ultra-stable, bronze-gold lacquered aluminium frame, which – how could it be otherwise – is reminiscent of a grand piano, and relies on high-gloss black panels that are manufactured in the same factory as the famous Steinway & Sons pianos.

The manufacturer explicitly points out that the Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker is much more than “just” a speaker system. Each loudspeaker is equipped with two digital amplifiers, each with a power of 400 watts, as well as a DSP-based crossover and, last but not least, the Lyngdorf RoomPerfect Calibritaion. This ensures that the best sound performance can be achieved in every room.

The Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker is still in production today, and a handful of customers enjoy this outstanding system year after year.

Prices and availability

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Steinway & Sons Model D, S/L Audio A/S will launch a very special anniversary edition, which will be presented in 2023, the Danes promise already at the beginning of this year, without, however, giving too many details. So, at the moment, neither a concrete date of availability nor a price can be mentioned.

Getting to the point

Even though S/L Audio A/S has so far not revealed much more than that this year, with the Steinway & Sons Model D Loudspeaker 15th Anniversary Edition, there will be a very special version on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Steinway Lyngdorf brand and the iconic Steinway & Sons Model D loudspeaker system, this announcement alone is probably enough to create excitement and arouse anticipation.
