Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition – Only 600 pieces

Equipped with the new Cayin R01 R-2R audio motherboard and housed in a titanium casing, the new Cayin N6ii-Ti Titanium Limited Edition will be available in no more than 600 units worldwide.

With the Cayin N6ii Digital Audio Player, a particularly exciting DAP is available, because Cayin Audio relies here on a modular concept that allows different audio motherboards. Now this DAP is offered in a particularly noble version, namely with a titanium housing, the Cayin N6ii-Ti Titanium Limited Edition.

In addition, a new audio motherboard, the Cayin R01 R-2R, is used here.

Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition – Limitless Possibilities in a Limited Edition

Only 600 units of this solution are to be produced worldwide, according to the Cayin Audio company, which at the same time promises limitless possibilities for this digital audio player.

In fact, the new Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition, like the regular series model, has many features that are not found in other solutions in this product category.

In principle

It should be noted that the new Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition differs from the standard model primarily in the housing, as well as in the choice of audio motherboard. Apart from that, however, the models are identical, so here is a brief overview of the basic equipment.

DAP based on Google Android and solid hardware

The Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition is based on Google Android 8.1, with a special DTA by SRC ensuring that the hi-res audio signal is processed optimally. A Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor with 4 GB RAM is responsible for performance, the internal memory is equipped with 64 GB and can theoretically be expanded by 1 TB via microSD cards.

For intuitive operation, there are various control elements on the sides, but above all a generously sized 4.2-inch IPS True Colour Touch Screen display with 768 x 1,280 pixels.

The Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition can contact the outside world via WiFi and Bluetooth, whereby Bluetooth 4.2 is used and LDAC is supported in addition to AAC and aptX. In addition, there is a USB-C interface via which the integrated battery is charged and which can also be used for USB audio. The Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition thus functions as a USB DAC on a PC or Mac.

Via HiByLink Smartphone Control, the Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition can be controlled directly from a smartphone and of course – thanks to Google Android – you have access to almost all essential streaming services. Only the corresponding app has to be installed.

It should also be emphasised that the Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition has a micro HDMI interface that can be used as an I2S for digital audio signals.

The Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition’s 5,900 mAh 3.7 V lithium-ion battery is said to offer up to 12.5 hours of playtime when using the unbalanced, and up to 11 hours when using the balanced headphone jack. The manufacturer promises particularly fast charging via Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

Modular concept for output stage

As already mentioned, the developers are pursuing a modular concept when it comes to the essential component, the output stage.

So far, they already offer a range of different audio motherboards, namely the Cayin E01, Cayin E02 and Cayin T01 solutions. Now, with the new Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition, another option has been added, and a very unusual one at that. At the same time as the new Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition, Cayin Audio is presenting the Cayin R-2R audio motherboard, which is already used in it ex works.

Cayin R01 R-2R Audio Motherboard

The new Cayin R01 R-2R audio motherboard uses a DAC with a discrete R-2R resistor network for highest converter precision as well as an FPGA chip for 768 kHz DSP oversampling. This allows audio data to be processed in Linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 384 kHz, DSD up to DSD256.

The immense effort that goes into this can be illustrated by a detail. For the aforementioned resistor network, no less than 48 resistors per channel are used, 23 as so-called R, 25 as so-called 2R, whereby the former have 5.1 kOhm each, the latter 10.2 kOhm each. In total, this results in no less than 96 resistors for the processing of the stereo signal, and all this in a very small space, just like a portable hi-res audio player. Moreover, it is an Ultra Precision Low TCR Thin Film Reistor, as the manufacturer states.

But according to the manufacturer, the effort pays off with extremely precise signal processing and particularly dynamic, detailed reproduction.

For connecting headphones, there is an unbalanced 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack and a 4.4 mm stereo jack for balanced signals.

The output power of the unbalanced output is 240 mW at 32 ohms per channel, that of the balanced output is 430 mW at 32 ohms per channel.

Titanium housing

The limited edition model of the DAP from Cayin Audio is not only characterised by this special audio motherboard, but also by the titanium housing.

This is machined out of one piece by CNC milling and refined by sandblasting for a very special feel and matt shine. As a special contrast, the controls, such as the rotary encoder on the side for controlling the volume and the buttons on the top, are made of brass, which is also gold-plated using PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition).

The new Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition measures 121 x 70 x 21 mm and weighs 349 g.

The new Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition is available immediately at the recommended retail price of € 1,998. The new audio motherboard, which is already installed here ex works, can of course also be purchased separately, so that existing customers of the regular model of the DAP can also enjoy its benefits. For the Cayin R01 R-2R audio motherboard, you have to budget € 698.

Getting to the point

The standard version of the Cayin N6ii Digital Audio Player was already convincing due to its modular design, so that customers could choose the optimal audio motherboard for their requirements. Now, the Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition is available in a particularly noble form with a titanium housing and a new, particularly sophisticated audio motherboard. The only problem is that only 600 Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Editions will be available. So it’s good that the new audio motherboard, the Cayin R01 R-2R Audio Motherboard, can also be purchased separately.
