Canvas HiFi offers innovative new crossover technology and Organic Master Tuning System for Canvas

The company Canvas HiFi is convinced that it can once again come up with a particularly innovative new feature for its outstanding Canvas audio system. The audio system for first-class TV sound has been given a completely redesigned crossover and an extended high-end tuning system, the Organic Master Tuning System, both developed by the company's Chief Technology Officer Benno Baun Meldgaard.

Story Highlights
  • Canvas HiFi expands the possibilities of the Canvas audio system with the Organic Master Tuning System and a new crossover, both developed by Benno Baum Meldgaard.

HiFi reinvented is how the Danish company Canvas HiFi describes its truly outstanding concept of the Canvas sound system, which is primarily designed as a powerful alternative to conventional soundbars and thus as an audio solution for TV sets. The special feature of this solution is first and foremost that it is an audio system designed entirely according to the same rules that apply to high-quality speaker systems in the classic HiFi environment, combined with the finest DSP-based signal processing and powerful amplifier, and even more, it is ultimately a flexible All-in-One system that can be used not only for the finest TV sound but also as a versatile audio system for streaming.

The aforementioned DSP-based signal processing also forms the basis for an upcoming innovative extension to Canvas. Canvas HiFi is not only implementing a new crossover via an update, but is also expanding the product with a new high-end tuning system.

High-end tuning system and the latest crossover technology developed by Benno Baun Meldgaard

Both the aforementioned high-end tuning system and the new crossover of the Canvas were developed directly by the company’s Chief Technology Officer Benno Baun Meldgaard, a man with many years of expertise in the development of loudspeaker systems. Benno Baun Meldgaard has been responsible for the development of various solutions for renowned manufacturers such as Gamut, Raidho, Scansonic-HD and Gryphon. This experience now flows directly into Canvas HiFi’s solutions and thus the Canvas audio system.

The new crossover for the Canvas All-in-One system

The centrepiece of what Canvas HiFi describes as ground-breaking technology around the new crossover is the so-called Stepped Slope Crossover Technology developed by Benno Baun Meldgaard.

According to the manufacturer, this design ensures seamless integration of the drivers, followed by a filter with a particularly steep slope, so that out-of-band distortion can be significantly reduced. The result is said to be exceptionally accurate signal processing in terms of phase alignment and impulse response, which in turn provides the basis for precise sound reproduction and timing – at a performance level that the manufacturer claims is reserved for that of reference-class speaker systems.

New Organic Master Tuning System

The new so-called Organic Master Tuning follows the psychoacoustic approach favoured by Benno Baun Meldgaard in the development, which was not fine-tuned in a laboratory but in a real living room.

When developing using this method, the focus is on how sound is actually perceived and not just how it is measured. The result, according to Canvas HiFi, is a natural, open and extremely detailed listening experience at a level not found in any other soundbar on the market.

According to the manufacturer, this additional clarity and openness also means that the system is able to reproduce more detail, especially in lower quality recordings.

In order to cater to different user preferences in the best possible way, the rather restrained Neutral Master Tuning System used to date will not be replaced. Instead, both settings will be offered in future, which will require an app to be released shortly. This will allow users to choose between the Neutral Master Tuning System and Organic Master Tuning at any time.

Prices and availability

The new DSP functions will soon be available to all existing customers free of charge. They do not have to do anything. The new frequency week and the new master tuning function will be provided automatically and free of charge via the over-the-air update system (OTA).

Getting to the point

The Danish company Canvas HiFi has recently added not only a new crossover, but also an extended High-end tuning system to its Canvas audio system, once again drastically improving the performance quality. The company speaks of a sound quality that is not to be expected from a soundbar, but rather from reference-class loudspeaker systems. In this context, the manufacturer expressly points out that these new, innovative functions are only possible because the Canvas audio system has been equipped with a particularly powerful DSP engine from the outset.
